We've spent about six months together in person, but I knew I loved him and wanted to be with him forever even before we met face to face. :luv:

Excellent responses. Is it something we would have to explain- why we had such a short courtship?

It probably wouldn't hurt to have a response ready in case they ask. Just be honest, six months is a pretty good while. My mom and dad got married after knowing each other less than two months and they've been togehter for about 30 years. Sometimes you just know, you know?

Your topic title and your poll title actually are two different questions; I voted according to the poll question.

We met online, and met face to face 6 months later. We became engaged on the day I left, which was exactly six months after we met online  We filed the K-1 four months after getting engaged, following Lai's trip to see me in the U.S.

As others have said, six months is not that short; I don't think it should be a problem.

I couldn't answer the poll, having not obtained a K1. However, my husband and I met in the March and married in the June whilst I was on the VWP, and it didn't cause us any trouble.

Yeah, I hope they count online time. A lot of people say they started their relationship before meeting face to face. To me, I don't know how you could call it a relationship before meeting face to face, but apparently, a lot of people do.

Our relationship before our first face to face meeting was just as real to us as after we met in person. It certainly grew and deepened, but there was no essential difference otherwise. If the 6 months we were together before meeting in person wasn't a relationship, then what about the 15 months after that before getting the K-1, during which we had only 10 days physical presence time? Did that time also not count?

No, I'm not saying your relationship before meeting is invalid. It's a really personal thing. For me, I could never say with a straight face that I was in a relationship until I'd met a person face to face. It's not the distance that makes the difference. It's the fact that you don't know what's real about the person, what they're like in their daily life, or what they smell like. You can't know if you're physically attracted or not. Video chat makes things more real, but to me, it would never be the same.

I know I might sound repetitive since I have made comments similar to what I am going to say so many times, sorry. :P

But I just wanted to say, it is possible to really get to know the person even if there is a distance, otherwise Suj and I wouldn't have gotten married after being around each other if we felt we didn't know each other. As for smell, daily life, etc all those things are discussed repeatedly when all you can do is talk for months or years between seeing each other, or at least they should be discussed. You talk about so many things (or should) while being separated that for me there really wasn't any surprises, including smell. That sounds funny. But you can talk about what is their favorite cologne etc do they have B.O. etc I would have had no problem asking that.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

I totally agree. I think I could really really enjoy getting to know someone and even start feeling love for them if I met them online, but then I would need to meet them to "confirm" before it felt real to me. I would try not to get my hopes up for self-preservation, I think. Maybe my problem is I just couldn't trust someone enough!
