And, even if it was her close friends, if it is such a big deal, I think I would have kept it to myself.

Maybe she trusted them.

Moral of the story.....never trust your friends. That....and ask for better stuff in your sleep.

Ain't that the truth. Maybe I need to study up on my spanish a little more. You never know what Javier might be asking for.

Yeah.....all this time you thought he was saying Quiero VJ, but remember those V's and B's sound awfully similar in Spanish!

On second thought, maybe that is what he was saying. Thanks, Merc.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

They are complete idiots...you can't take anything that was said in his sleep as serious...dumbasses...

I see you echoed my comment, albeit more politely.

I just cannot stand when my religion is wrongly interpreted...

Please clarify

yes it's true that saying you want a divorce three consecutive times is grounds for divorce but it wasn't meant that saying it in your sleep counts...I don't know I question myself and my religion a lot...like I feel that things were written so long ago and were only applicable then...i.e. jihad...that was only meant for when someone attacks you first not to go around and kill people at random...this isn't what Islam is about...for example...in Iran they have whorehouses and there are Mullah's (holy leaders) at the door who perform nikkahs (marriage certificates) so that the men could have sex with the woman of their choice and when they leave they just divorce them...ummm who the hell are we trying to fool...not God that's for darn tootin...people bend and twist Islam to their liking...and maybe I am guilty of that too...

I have to confess I am pretty ignorant about Islam....traditions, etc. I thought you were going to say something like this thing is crazy and they haven't had that law for years or something like that. So you're saying this is for real? If I said it out loud 3 times, then that is grounds for divorce? Aye

The divorce of every husband is effective if he be of a

sound understanding and of mature age; but that of a boy,

or a lunatic ... or one talking in his sleep, is not effective.

Definition from Dictionary of Islam

Unfortunately, the western view on this subject is tainted by reports like this that are just not correct. The "I divorce you, I divorce you, I dicorce you" thing is no different to our "File the petition, grant the decree-nisi, grant the decree absolute". There are spaces of time in between each declaration of "I divorce you" that gives you time to change your mind - just as in our laws.

I get so upset when I see this kind of thing. Twisting the laws of Islam - mocking it. It's no wonder so many people believe Islam has the most ridiculous rules. If they only studied it a bit before coming to their biased conclusions perhaps there would be a little more harmony in this world.

Our journey started in 2001 and it's still not over. It's been a rollercoaster ride all the way! Let me off - I wanna be sick!

welll.. if Abdul Crazy didn't twist the laws to start with.. I'd think people wouldn't mock the laws either..

The article refers to how Islamic law is being interpreted by a Sharia court in a remote part of India. The story is funny, not poignant. Indian law allows the couple to 'register' their marriage under secular law and that would exempt them from jurisdiction of the Sharia courts.

I found another update to the story. Turns out the couple has, in fact, registered their marriage with a secular civil court but the Muslim court is not accepting the certificate. I am 99% positive they don't really get to make that choice, as Indian law allows Muslims to choose between Sharia and civil law with civil law winning out in case of conflicts.

Dalgaonbasti: The Muslim couple who were told to separate after it emerged that the husband had uttered 'talaq' thrice in his sleep have registered their marriage in a civil court.

But the moulvi (priest) in their village in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, who ordered them to separate, refused to accept the civil marriage registered by Aftab saying it does not have religious sanctity. Aftab Ansari (30), a brick kiln worker, was ordered by the moulavi to separate from Sohela, his wife of 11 years, for having uttered 'talaq' thrice in his sleep on December 20.

Aftab has been put under constant surveillance and not allowed to meet any outsider.

As soon our team reached Aftab's house, a crowd gathered and stopped them from speaking to the couple.

The moulvi, Maulana Mohammad Kausar, was called. He prohibited any outsider from speaking to the couple. “This is a problem of our community, we will settle it among ourselves,” he said adding, “Don't publicise it.”

Maybe they chose the civil certificate because they knew Aftab Ansari to be a chopf#ck!
