Hello everyone!

Next month (Nov. 12) I have my N400 citizenship interview (based on marriage) however, I still have my I-751 case pending. I applied to I-751 in Feb. 2019 and the last update I got was on June 2020 "we transferred your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, Receipt Number WAC-xyz , to another USCIS office. That office now has jurisdiction over your case." and hasn't moved since.

Today I was using the live chat feature on the USCIS page and asked if perhaps I was having a combo interview on Nov. 12. The response I got was basically nothing... "Refer to your last notice" and they say that I can do the interview for citizenship, but even if I pass it, they won't make a decision until the I-751 is approved. It's like moving forward to take a step back to move forward again.

I am prepared to have a combo interview, just in case, and my husband will be driving me to USCIS. However, with COVID, he can't come with me inside the building, so I am just a little worried in case I have a combo interview and the officer ask me about my husband to be present. Will I be able to call him to come in? I feel I am in a limbo here. Is anyone else in the same situation?

Thank you!

But how do I justify that my husband has to come with me inside the USCIS building without any proof? Meaning, I don't have any paper that says "this will be a combo interview therefore, bring your spouse to the building with you."

Combo interview was never mentioned in the interview letter, it is general. They are aware of these interviews so you are okay, you can also tell your spouse to stand by outside, if they need him, they will let you call him in.

My wife recently had her N-400 interview, I was told to wait outside and in the event they needed me they would call me over the phone, but I wasn't going to be let it. The interviewer did bring up that we had an ongoing I-751 case, which we weren't prepared for or expected. She said the case needed to be approved/closed in order to move onto the I-400 case, so she ask my wife a few simple questions. I believe the question was when & when did you get marry, do you have any pictures (we did not bring any physical ones, my wife offer to show it to her on facebook page, but the interviewer said it wasn't necessary), ask to see my son birth certificate (this we brought by coincident), and that was it. She closed the I-751 and move onto the I-400 related item. My wife pass the interview, was swore in on the spot, and got her Naturalization Certificate and a mini US Flag.

Be prepared for a combo interview. Bring all evidence, documents etc for both petitions with you. Bring your spouse with you and if security will not let him in, have him stand-by in the area (make sure his phone is on and working).

The combo interview is rarely officially scheduled and appears to be more based on local office procedures.

Without the I-751 being closed out and approved they cannot approve the N400. They can do the interview and the test but not the actual approval.

Again be prepared for a combo, but don't be too disappointed if they want you to come back for a I-751 interview.

Thank you! Yes, indeed I am actually bringing both cases and all evidence with me, just in case we end up having a combo interview 🙂

Well, you all were right! - I didn't have any trouble bringing my husband with me to USCIS. We had a combo interview - she barely asked anything, we submitted A LOT of evidence and our case was very organized- and then I had my N400 interview with my husband in the room too.

Everything was very smooth and approved! - now just waiting for the new GC (stupid bc I will have to give it back) and oath ceremony letter anytime soon.

Thanks y'all!
