@MG & DC

Hi Michael,

I'm also located in Montreal, having a status of "at NVC". We got P2 on November 17 and still waiting for any update from the MTL consulate. Hope it'll arrive soon. Cheers!

Hi guys, Our case is at NVC and I called them to ask if  KTM embassy is now processing K1. They told us that, they are now open for K1 and processing it. Any Idea when will they send the case or how long does it take? Do we have to send email to KTM Embassy to request K1 files? NVC or Embassy which should act first to trigger this?

The entire process is outlined in the PDF file on the first page. You'll find all your answers there. Currently the Embassy initiates the request for your file. They will do that when they are ready to process your "group" as files are sent in groups with the intention of first in first out from NVC. So, where you are in line makes a difference. Since your embassy doesn't process many K-1's I can only assume that it will be soon. No one with any certainty can tell you when your file will leave NVC. It's still a game of wait. In the meantime, look over the PDF.

I called yesterday (Friday evening if you're in the US) and received the good news that we're in their system so we have our case number now! :) No email yet but we are both hopeful that it'll get sent to Sydney soon

I am curious, is it possible to have our case file sent to a different embassy other than where the beneficiary if from?

Background: My fiancée if from the Philippines where they are not processing K1 visas yet. we have spent some time together in Dubai and are planning a trip to Costa Rica, I am wondering if the embassy in costa rica can do the interview and medical there? Or is every embassy in the world not processing K1 visa's?

You must be a resident of the country to which you desire to have your interview at. You can get married in another country, stop the K-1 case you have filed and then file for I-130, Petition for Alien Relative and she will have a GC and SSN waiting for her once she arrives in the US. Much faster and cheaper than a K-1 plus the added benefit is she can begin work right away. With AOS on a K-1 EAD (authorization to work) is taking a year or more. Something to think about.

Hope you're all having a lovely day!

What is the process now?

We called and got our Case & Receipt Number (LND2020...) Which is 'still at NVC'

We filled in the DS-160 which then gave us another number (AA009...) which is 'No Status'

I know it's just waiting again, but what exactly are we waiting for 😅

You're waiting for NVC to send your file to the embassy. Once that happens you will be able to pick an interview date. In the meantime you can check what documents you will need for your interview and start gathering them.
