Hello,  I am a medical student in Grenada West Indies, I married my husband in February of this year. Our I-130 priority date is June 12, 2020. I received an action of notice on June 17, 2020 stating they received our application and it's being processed. I am in Grenada with my husband as I am a medical student here. I am required to return to the states at the end of December 2020 to start hospital clinical rotations in January 2020. I am wondering what the next step is as we have not heard anything at all. The office we have been assigned is Nebraska. Grenada does not have an active US embassy so I am guessing the next embassy would be Barbados. My main questions are...

1. What is the time line like from here? We wait for approval? Which will take how long?

2. Has anyone had experience with expedite for Nebraska office or Barbados?

Thank you so much!

Hello, it is now a waiting game. You have to wait for USCIS to process your I-130. The timeframe will depend on what Service Center you were assigned. It can take anywhere from a few months to a year. When I filed for my husband it took  months but they requested evidence that I know I submitted with the original paperwork. I think it was a tactic to stall the process. The NVC took about  months and the interview was about a month after that. However that all depends on when there is an opening at the embassy.

Hi,

It can take 12+ months to get a spousal immigrant visa.

Getting a spousal immigrant visa in 6 months would be on the fast side.

Wishing you the best, but you may have to return to the US first and wait for your husband to get an immigrant visa.

Separation during the immigration process is the norm for most couples.

I'm not sure what you're asking? If he doesn't get a VISA you mean? I pray that's not even an option...

There is no way, with you delaying the filing of the I-130, to expect an interview, let alone be cleared at the NVC based on the timeline you provided.

you will have to spend time apart.
