My boyfriend (american) and I are planning to get married in March. I am currently on OPT, passed the bar after my masters and was hired as an attorney. My opt will end at the end of June next year. Currently filing processes are about 150 days - meaning Id have to get married before we have planned to meet this deadline and for me to get my new ead before this one expires (and not lose my job).

Is this a decent reason for asking them to expedite the process?

Did anyone go through something similar? does it actually take 150 months?
I am freaking out!

p.s.: we cannot get married without our parents here.. and they cannot come before march.

Generally no.  Your future husband as the petitioner is expected to be financially responsible for you.  If not, get an additional financial sponsor.

It typically takes 180 days.

Why not? Aren’t you both age 18 or older?

Seems like an artificial, self imposed problem.

Get married this week, file your immigration package, get a marriage based EAD, likely before June.

In March have religious / cultural ceremony and celebration with your family.

Life is full of choices.

You can ask for an expedite and there's no guarantee you will get it.

Alternatively, you can get a civil marriage done today so you can file for AOS and get your EAD before the end of June 2021.  You can have your celebration in March when your parents are here.

Today maybe too late certainly get things going tomorrow.

We just got married yesterday and it was not under the conditions we wanted -- we were extremely lucky to have one member of his family able to be with us. But he is now on the two-year extension of his L1B and we are not taking any chances about his current EAD running out before AOS is complete. If we waited until all the stars aligned and COVID was over and we could have the "perfect" wedding, we might be stuck with him unable to keep working because his L1 was expired and he didn't have an approved EAD. We did what we had to and you know what? It was perfect because we were there, and that's all that counts.

I have been through a K1 visa process before with my ex, and I know from that experience (almost all the way through to citizenship with him) and this one as it begins that "perfect timing" and "immigration" rarely line up. You get thrown curveballs and things get delayed for reasons within and out of your control. So do the things that are in your control -- getting married ASAP is one of them. Get a head start and that way you don't need to think about possibly not having work authorization if it is very important to you. It is to us, so we prioritized that over having all the people with us we wanted in person. We will have our big blowout reception probably in 2022 and it will be AWESOME! :D

Good luck and best wishes for your upcoming wedding! :)
