Hi all! A little nervous about the impending lockdown and its impact on getting my passport back...

Embassy interview and approved: Wednesday 28 October

Status to administrative processing: Monday 02 November (3 working days after interview)

Status to issued: Tuesday 03 November (1 working day after administrative processing)

Is it reasonable to expect an update from the courier, later today, so that I can collect my passport, tomorrow?

For reference: I selected to pickup from a nearby depot.

Thanks!

I had my interview yesterday at 10am and my visa was on its way to me by 1pm today!!! I would definitely say tomorrow you will get an email to pick it up!

Yes! You should be fine and should receive it tomorrow at the depot! Lucky you (and we) got in there before lockdown!

Wow! I considered doing that but ended up booking it as soon as the interview was scheduled, so about 6 weeks in advance, but I left an 8 day gap after my interview. I wanted to get the cheap tickets as soon as I could!

Good luck with it all! Can you let us know what your experience is like flying out during lockdown but this side of the pond and the other?

Update.

I flew from Heathrow to Chicago on United airlines on Friday 20th.

At check-in there are US immigration or CBP agents checking documents. I provided the Visa (printed in my passport), my marriage certificate and a photo copy of my wife's  US passport.  They were happy with that and it didn't take very long.

The airport was quite and the flight was almost empty, maybe 20-30 people on a  787!, the nearest person to me was 4 rows in front.

At customs in Chicago there was no queue. I was told to skip the automated machines and go straight to booth were the Customs and Border Patrol agents sits. I handed over the passport with the visa in. it. He checked a few things on his computer for a couple of mins, then asked me to sit in a waiting room. I had only been sat down for about 2 mins when another agent came out and gave my my passport back and told my I was free to go.  The whole process took less than 10 mins.  No one took the  CD I had been given with my  visa.

I hope you all have a similarly straight forward experience.

Thanks for the update, and I am glad it went smoothly for you!

Excuse my ignorance, but what does CD mean in this context?

Also - were you given any advice or info re getting your PR card? I heard they apply for it for you when you arrive! Thanks

CD- I got a compact disc back with my passport ,  It has my name, DOB , age, and case number on it . I assumed I had to hand it over at customs but no one wanted it. I think it my have my documents on it but maybe they were able to access them all without the CD.

PR- nope, I  asked able if my entry into the USA  would trigger my Social Security number/card being sent out  because that's my more immediate concern.  While she was friendly the CBP agent was a bit none committal and I got the impression she didn't really know ( or perhaps care).

Ahhh.... yes, I wondered if you got an actual CD but I have never heard of this before!

Yeah I am also concerned about SSN, but I heard it gets sent to you within a few weeks of entering if you checked the box on your application form initially. I guess I will ask again about both! I hope both come quickly!

The CD is your chest X-ray from the medical. Nobody in immigration wants to see it. The clinic has no need for it so passes it on to you when you have your interview appointment.
