How long is it taking to get a reply for the K1 visa fiance petition, now October 2020? When could I expect the check for the fee to be withdrawn from my acount? Will they notify me if they find a major error or simply ignore the petition?

Up to 30 days.

Taking 6 to 8 months to process the petition before you will know about any major inadequacy

YMMV

Didn't you submit a g-1145 to track the petition arrival?

Do you know if the petition arrived?

more than 5 to 6 weeks after receipt would be too long and you should contact the lockbox contact.

When could I expect the check for the fee to be withdrawn from my account? Normal processing of the issuance for a NOA1 is about 2-3 weeks. You are earlier in your expectations. A couple of key factors to look for is 1) has your tracking indicated the package was received? 2) Has your form of payment been executed? Having those two completed then you are close to receiving your NOA1. "your mileage may vary"

Will they notify me if they find a major error or simply ignore the petition? They will issue a RFE if additional information or documents are needed to complete adjudication of your case.

I used the "search" box in the upper right-hand corner, and I was able to see many articles concerning your topic here on VJ. It's an amazing tool to use. Here is one such topic like what you are asking.
