Just joined the National Guard as a Green Card Holder

Thank you. Much appreciated. My original plan was to join the Air National Guard, but I wasn’t able to because they require a 10 year green card, not a 2 year one. 
 

I only signed a 3 year contract. I plan on commissioning as soon as I become a citizen too since I already have a college degree.

Thank you. I am from California, originally from Mexico. 
 

Did your wife stay in the same branch when she commissioned or did she switch branches?

haha that was our exact plan as well. Same thing they told us about the 2 year greencard. Were also planning to do a 3 year contract. My husband talks to me about getting my degree and commissioning but im not sure yet. But i want to go active when my husband retires and im not to sure how it would work being a Guard officer and transitioning to the active duty.

Are you in the guard? I see youre from philippines. Can you tell us more about your journey in the guard as  permanent resident? I am hoping to be able to gain my citizenship at my basic training graduation or shortly after. Im not sure what will happen with immigrants, permanent residence, and naturalization now that it looks like biden will be president.

I go back this week to choose a job and I don’t know how the enlistment part is gonna go.

I’m hearing that the Delayed entry program is no longer those long months

I actually don’t know any information about the Delayed Entrance Program because the National Guard does not have that. Try to pick something you will actually like if I may advise something. Don’t get stuck with something you don’t want just because it has a short shipping date.

OP, you can get your N 426 signed as a member of RSP program. If you get your N 426, you can apply for N400.

He has to do it while in boot camp not before unless he is drilling with the guard/reserve

This is for the Guard. Per the Guard, people in RSP can request to get their N-426 certified.

No, even before then. You don’t start drilling with your respective unit until after you finish BCT and AIT. RSP is before BCT and AIT and it is not with your respective unit.
