Hi all,

Just to make sure that I'm understanding this correctly:

  1. You were Documentarily Qualified
  2. Your case arrived at the Embassy in Dublin and an interview was scheduled
  3. The CEAC website changed from DQ to requesting the longform certificate? Were you notified?

Seems really odd to me for your stuff to be all approved and then denied, but it's good that you caught it before the interview!

Also, @JenIE, the image you uploaded seems to have broken, would it be too much trouble for you to supply a new one? The only longform-style marriage certs I'm finding are Irish ones lol

Hi @neca Yes, I also found it quite odd that we would be DQ and then subsequently have a doc rejected. Like @hooley8 we were not notified of the subsequent rejection. As @JenIE mentioned, the pre-interview email we received recommended that we be proactive about ensuring our documents were all correct and approved on the CEAC system. So this is how I discovered, to my surprise, that I would need to go source a long-form marriage cert.

Here's hoping it arrives before my interview is rescheduled :)

Hi all,

Thanks a million for your responses and for your help on this. An update; after my embassy appointment was cancelled due to local COVID-19 lock down restrictions, the U.S. embassy has contacted me to reschedule my appointment for next Monday, 7th December. This is good news, however due to some processing difficulties at the NYC clerk's office, we still haven't been posted the long-form marriage cert, and I think we likely won't receive it until the week after the interview date.

I am worried that if I attend the appointment next week without the long-form certificate that we'll be turned away and may face lengthy delays to get a new appointment. The email with the new appointment date states that "Should you be unable to attend the time slot highlighted above, it may be a number of weeks/months before our office can provide you an alternative appointment."

I think I have two options:

1. Attend the appointment with the regular marriage certificate we already have and hope that they provisionally grant me a visa and ask me to upload the long-form cert when it arrives in the post.

2. Reject the appointment offer and ask for a later date but risk the later date being months from now given current restrictions.

I would like to go with option 1 but I'm concerned about showing up to an appointment that they've specifically asked for, despite being proactive about obtaining it.

I would warmly welcome anyone else's opinion here.

Many thanks,

Erich

Thanks a lot for your reply, Ryan! Expectations are low for good news on the day, but I'll update after.

Seconding Ryan, I would go, and take any documentation that shows that the longform cert is on its way (correspondence with the state, any tracking information you may have), as well as the marriage cert you already have on hand.

Good luck! ✌️

👐

Patience......patience.

Hi all,

Thanks for all your help.

Just to update, I had my embassy interview this morning and it went as expected. Interview was fine but I will need to send in the long-form marriage cert when I receive it in the post. So it's good news in the sense that the interviewer seemed minded to approve the visa once I provide them with the new marriage cert. So now I'll just be waiting impatiently for the cert to arrive!

Anyone waiting on an embassy appointment in Dublin, make sure your marriage cert is an extended form, or risk delays.

HI- sorry you are having to wait a bit longer, but at least it does seem to be an easy approval process once you receive the certificate. I have a quick question regarding this as its the first I hear of this requirement and we were already DQed by NVC back in mid June. We were married in the Seychelles and our certificate definitely does not appear to be a long form (include parents names etc). Is this an absolute requirement based on your knowledge? I don't think Seychelles provide this type of   certificate and we would have no idea about how to obtain one now anyway.

OR was this specific to where you got married, meaning that long form certificates are customary in NY and thats why the officer was expecting to see this type of certificate from you? I find this whole requirement a bit confusing and overkill but just need to be informed as you said, to avoid delays. I appreciate that you have made us all aware of this, its really helpful thanks!

Hi there,

I would imagine that this issue is specific to the the US embassy in Ireland but I can't be sure. I did a number of advanced searches on Visa Journey and elsewhere online to try to see if others had encountered this issue but I couldn't find anything, hence why I asked myself! So I do hope that this is just a peculiar requirement for the consular officers at the Dublin embassy. As @JenIE noted, there doesn't seem to be mention of a requirement for long-form marriage certs on the travel.state.gov website.

If you were married in the Seychelles and long-form marriage certs aren't offered there, then your current cert is the only one that is available to you and I wouldn't worry too much. I do think it is wise to keep an eye on your case online though. Maybe intermittently check on the docs you've submitted online to ensure no new notes have appeared from consular officers. Unfortunately I wasn't notified of my doc rejection despite being DQ myself; I just noticed it when I clicked in to review the docs I'd submitted!

Wishing you all the best.

Our case just got transferred to Dublin consulate, so I expect we will have to deal with this issue potentially. Thanks for the advice. Will be proactive in checking CEAC and reaching out to the consulate to ensure what we have will suffice.

Does anyone know if any January interviews have been scheduled in Dublin?  I'm not seeing much activity in the timelines past your interview on December on 8th. Just curious...
