Hi VJ members,

I finally moved to the US 2 days ago. My POE was Dallas Fort-Worth. At immigration, I showed my IR1 visa to the officer and told him that I'm moving to the US. Then he handed me to another officer who led me into a room to wait with other people. I had waited for 1.5 hours until they called my name. The only question asked was to verify my U.S. address. The officer said the green card will be mailed to this address in 3 to 6 months. Then they stamped on my passport and let me out.

On the way out, I was showed to the baggage claim and then continued with my connecting flight. I was confused why I wasn't asked to do any customs declaration step.

Hopefully other stuff (like the unaccompanied personal effects sent through mail) would also be smooth.

I just arrived to San Francisco 4days ago, I waited in the room for 10-15mins, also verifying the address as well. But I forgot to ask how long does a green card take to be sent ......

Today (Oct 28) I received the SSN in the mail. I arrived at POE on Oct 20.

Congrats on moving and receiving the SSN! I think this is by far the quickest I've seen - i've read on the blog that some have waited for months. Did you check on DS-260 form that you want to receive the SSN or did you apply for it in person?

Thank you!

I also didn't expect to receive it this soon. I read that normally it takes about 2 weeks but may be months for others. And yes, the box on DS-260 form was checked and I didn't need to do anything else.

Welcome to the USA 🇺🇸 😎

I arrived USA on 24th of September 2020, no tough question from immigration officer, except he asked my date of birth and confirmed the US address and than said "welcome to america".

Unfortunately I didn't get my SSN and green card yet. Still waiting.

It’s not unusual to not have received the SSN within 6 weeks of arrival.  Give it another month as things are slow due to COVID.

Good luck with your new life in the US👍
