US voters are receiving threatening emails from foreign servers warning them to vote Trump 'or we will come after you'

• Registered voters in Florida and Alaska have received threatening emails purporting to be from a far-right US group telling them: 'Vote for Trump on Election Day or we will come after you.'
• The emails, which were obtained by outlets including the New York Times and CNN, appeared to come from an email address linked to the Proud Boys, a far-right US group.
• But metadata reviewed by CNN and the New York Times indicated that the emails had been sent from foreign servers, and the group's chairman said the email is 'definitely not' from them.
• Federal law enforcement agencies in Florida are investigating dozens of reports of such emails, according to the New York Times

Iran and Russia Seek to Influence Election in Final Days, U.S. Officials Warn

WASHINGTON — Iran and Russia have both obtained American voter registration data, top national security officials announced late on Wednesday, providing the first concrete evidence that the two countries are stepping in to try to influence the presidential election as it enters its final two weeks.

Iran used the information to send threatening, faked emails to voters, said John Ratcliffe, the director of national intelligence, and Christopher A. Wray, the F.B.I. director, in an evening announcement from the bureau’s headquarters. Intelligence agencies had collected information that Iran planned to take more steps more steps to influence the vote, prompting the unusual timing of the briefing as an effort to deter Tehran.

There was no indication that any election result tallies were changed or that information about who is registered to vote was altered, either of which could affect the outcome of voting that has already begun across the country. The officials also did not make clear whether either nation hacked into voter registration systems.

The material obtained by Iran and Russia was mostly public, according to an intelligence official, and Iran was using it as an opposing political campaign might. Some voter information, including party registration, is publicly available, and voters’ names may have been merged with other identifying material like email addresses from other databases, according to intelligence officials, including some sold by criminal hacking networks on the “dark web.”

It's kind of a weird thing and depends on where you go. I'm not sure if hubby has been privy to any election IT security meetings but I'd think in some cases yes there are connections.

The actual voting/balloting being corrupted is not the primary risk according to experts. The start of this thread points to the largest risk, "can hacked information be used via Active measures to disrupt or lower the confidence in the voting system?"

Well, while hacked information is concerning, I'd like to know who the people are that open completely random disturbing spam emails and then actually believe it enough to change their vote. While stuff like this is disturbing (and there is a MD case of a guy physically leaving a hateful letter on a doorstep), none of it would certainly convince me to change who I'd vote for. I suppose it's the same persons that answer IRS/police are outside your door but you can buy them off if you send a moneygram phone calls and Nigerian prince letters.

But the bill that was ignored cited specifically voting machines, not voting processes, or tabulation processes, hence my question.  Of course there is always the Constitutional aspect that the Federal government does not run any elections, so not really sure why the Dems are trying to interfere in local matters.
