Hello everybody i'm wondering once my visa is approved and i fly into the U.S. would i have to quarantine where i landed in the states or could i take a connecting flight to my destination and then quarantine there as i would be living there?

obviously this is very complicated and things can change very quickly with the current covid situation but anyone's advice would be greatly appreciated

this is beth's husband asking this

Hi, I flew 26th April. I quarantined for two weeks in Denver, Colorado after flying via Newark. I was on an IR1 visa. Even if it's not a legal requirement I think (in my opinion) it's responsible to quarantine for 14 days just in case, my husband didn't want me to be a poster child for COVID either lol. My husband and also his adult son who stays with us quarantined also.

Oh where I am, masks (or face coverings) are enforced (Denver County) so look up the local rules of where you are.

All I could find online is that it may vary from state to state.

That is because there are no federal rules or regulations about quarantine or testing. The federal government has deferred those decisions to local jurisdictions.

In Kentucky it's just "recommended" https://govstatus.egov.com/kycovid19

"Dr. Steven Stack, Kentucky’s Public Health Commissioner, stressed that this is a recommendation and not a mandate."

Hiya, you only need to quarantine, if required, at the final destination. So, I personally will land in TN (as the final airport via Atlanta, GA) but since I will be "home" in KY- will abide by those rules once I get there.

KY rules are that they recommend a 14 day quarantine period. This is not enforced but highly recommended. TN has no travel restrictions or quarantine instructions.

That’s what I was thinking, but things are constantly changing! I’m thinking flying Mark into Cincinnati’s airport would be more direct and probably less expensive than into Louisville. We’ll definitely quarantine at home for the 14 days. We just didn’t want him stuck in Cincinnati.

It's good to check nearer the time but most states strongly recommend 14 days quarantine and most only apply if you are there longer than a day. So travelling on to your final destination from the airport should be fine. You have to let them know about the details of accommodation when you fly anyways so I do not foresee this as an issue especially when there are no enforced quarantines on the destination. Best to check nearer the time and most airlines offer free waiver for changes on flights.
