I should say in fairness that most of the concerns about an OP locking a thread are non issues. I receive a request about 3-4 times a month by an OP for this (out of many many threads in total).

Members can always restart the topic if they choose and it is not a violation of the TOS (i.e. it was locked as a request of the OP and there were TOS violations as well). Most OP's request a thread to be closed when they are getting slammed by members or attacked for whatever reason. I would say that 90% of the time an OP requests the closure for this reason (they started a thread about a personal topic and got slammed by members for whatever reason). Since the topic was about "them" and not general then, like I said, I normally have no problem closing it.

I should add that while re-creating this topic is ok, please keep it "on topic" and productive. It is great to get good feedback from the community but hard to sort through pages of off topic banter.
