If the initiator "owns" the thread, I think it is only fair that the initiator be allowed to transfer those rights. Ownership is transferable in the real world

anyhoo....I feel the instances where it may be exception is if we're talking about someone's personal life. The OP may have second thoughts about 'putting it all out there' or may want to not be fodder for conversation. I think that's reasonable to request a lock.

Otherwise, if it's just a general topic of conversation, I don't feel the OP should get a lock if a convo has spawned from it.
