Generally speaking, why does the OP get a say in what happens with the thread? It's not like they own the thing.

Seems to me it's very easy to say 'lock it up' when things aren't going one's way....

It's possible that happens. I guess Ewok clarified that a majority of the time the threads should be locked if requested by the OP.

You mean like the other day when a certain lady had more of a problem with whom was speaking to her, rather than what was being said?

I disagree with the concept of the OP being able to PM a moderator or Ewok and having a topic closed, for the reason Lisa mentioned. To me, forum discussions are living things...they take on a life of their own. I always let discussions take their own course on my board. They sometimes end up in very interesting places.

Letting members have their topics closed implies ownership of the thread. That seems unfair to the people who have already posted to the topic, or who were going to post to it in the near future.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Kinda like when a person spends his/her time around here doing nothing but whining, complaining and knocking other people down- and then when one person makes any sort of comment that doesn't go their way, they start claiming that they are being attacked?

Kinda sorta like when someone uses suggestion threads to hash up things about other people who shall remain unnamed but you can pretty much tell who they're talking about? :P

Yeah, I don't like having threads locked, posts edited/removed/made invisible.

But this isn't my board.

Kind of like that, yeah.

According to the thread pinned in this forum (TOS thread):

A thread may be locked if:

A topic goes way over the hill and has lost focus and a hopeless argument ensues. In this case please take the argument to another means of communication off this board or use PM’s to discuss your personal issues. Do not create the same topic again.

Or

If a thread has truly ended and then becomes WAY off topic. It is suggested that members create a new topic to continue a discussion. It is confusing when a normal thread gets off topic by 4-5 pages!

Kinda sorta like when someone uses suggestion threads to hash up things about other people who shall remain unnamed but you can pretty much tell who they're talking about? :P

I said 'generally speaking' and I meant it.

I've mentioned it before this incident (do a post search)..... it goes on all the time. I disagree with it in general barring a few exceptions. For all the reasons Platy mentioned.

Not everything is about continuing a pizzing contest yanno

Oh I know you mention stuff all the time. Continually. Over and over again. Like a broken record. Except for the part where the needle jumps and you flip over to a the other side of the record. But hey I guess that's part of the game!

You're the pizzing contest expert so don't go getting all high and mighty with me.
