Cro-Magnon man is closer to modern man. The Neanderthals I understand were an evolutionary dead end. They were gorilla strong but had tiny brains - and could be easily outwitted.

Like the Taliban?

Like Chimpanzees. They look like pansies - but you wouldn't want to be in a dark room with one after someone has flicked its nuts with a wet towel.

Do you remember the West Covina man that got torn apart by 2 chimps in that private zoo?

omg, yes. :o I saw what he looked like after the attack. I don't think chimps are innately violent - those chimps were either neglected or poorly treated.

I was (morbidly) curious about that - but all I could find was a picture of the guy in wheelchair with a mask over his face.

Actually, chimps in the wild can be very violent.

That's right - they eat other monkeys.

We saw Gorillas in the Bronx zoo - amazing how humanlike they are in the flesh. Never really got that sense from photographs or TV. The baby gorilla's mannerisms weren't all that dissimilar from a human toddler. It was pretty amazing.

Actually the Neadertals had a bigger brain/body ratio than we do. They had braincases over 1000 CCs. [geek] The going theory that I like is that their brains didln't lateralize like we do. Humans are the only creatures whos brains lateralize function intto left brian/right brain stuff. Everything else has a left and right brain do the exact same thing. So we get a big "big brain" bonus without actually having a bigger brian. Thats why we are typically right handed. Left handers are interesting - sometimes the left and right brains switch 100% mirror copy, but more often than not there is an unusual lateralization pattern. [/geek]

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
