Thought maybe my congressman's office could help as they got things moving along for us on my wife's CR1 visa but they told me there is nothing they can do about this and I have to work it out with USCIS. She said they are scheduling appointments by phone only because of covid (no idea why covid is preventing them from taking appointments online). Guess well just go to the DMV tomorrow and see if they will accept the expired I-797. Otherwise I don't know what were gonna do.

Also pertinent:  I know a lot of states are scaring the wits out of people by saying you have to have a REAL ID to travel or board a plane.

Regular DL/ID are still currently accepted by TSA: https://www.dhs.gov/news/2020/03/26/acting-secretary-chad-wolf-statement-real-id-enforcement-deadline "Due to circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the national emergency declaration, the Department of Homeland Security, as directed by President Donald J. Trump, is extending the REAL ID enforcement deadline beyond the current October 1, 2020 deadline. I have determined that states require a twelve-month delay and that the new deadline for REAL ID enforcement is October 1, 2021."

Just got done at the DMV. As soon as my wife handed them the paperwork they told her they would have to send it to Madison. After waiting a half hour everything was good to go and my wife has a renewed license. I asked about the REAL ID and they confirmed the only way my wife can get one is with a valid green card. Guess we'll have to wait until her I-751 is processed. Hopefully we don't need it to fly domestically in the meantime.

A real ID is not required until October 2021 and even then, she can use her passport.

Okay. I thought only a US passport could be used. Regardless she should have her green card by then I would hope. Its going on 2 years already.

https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification

Adult passengers 18 and over must show valid identification at the airport checkpoint in order to travel.

  • Driver's licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. passport card
  • DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
  • U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents
  • Permanent resident card
  • Border crossing card
  • State-issued Enhanced Driver’s License
  • Federally recognized, tribal-issued photo ID
  • HSPD-12 PIV card
  • Foreign government-issued passport
  • Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card
  • Transportation worker identification credential
  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
  • U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential
  • Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)

So she can either use her Philippines passport or the regular renewed license she received today because it's still before Oct. 1, 2021.

Beginning Oct. 1, 2021, if you plan to use your state-issued ID or license to fly within the U.S., make sure it is REAL ID compliant. If you are not sure if your ID complies with REAL ID, check with your state department of motor vehicles.

The simple way is to check to see if your license has the gold star on top of it.  Ohio is different, as it has a black cut-out star.  WA is also an exception.

Finally done.
