NVC supervisor involved

I’m not sure about the specifics of your ballot, but a maybe a scan if it’s addressed to your name. I just sent them a screen shot from my state’s online voter portal that showed my registration status and registered address.

This burden of proof of domicile is what has worried me the most throughout the process.  NVC had no issues with the documents I sent in, but I’m not sure what will happen at my husband’s interview (it’s this Tuesday!). I can keep you posted, if you want, if any questions about domicile come up.

Thank you, that would be great! Good luck!

We’ve had so many issues with the Nvc due to them making mistake after mistake. After seeing all sections saying accepted, we got so excited and we’re jumping for joy. Then I saw a message saying I didn’t submit proof of domicile and must submit it. I was/am livid. I called, waited on hold for an hour (yay for international fees) and asked to speak to a supervisor. I told him I had already submitted my tax returns and their website says that’s a form of proof. He sounded half asleep, could barely speak English and couldn’t be less interested in what I had to say. He asked a few questions then said he’d leave a note on our file that sufficient proof had already been submitted and then said they’ll review it.

I thought a supervisor was able to override and push through the decision?

does having a supervisor involved and leaving a note make the review happen faster?

he told me to call back next week and that was it. Just panicked as ireland is about to head into a level 5 lockdown which means the embassy will close again.

There is no joy in immigration. it's stressful.

We're going into a level 5? Thought they were deciding that tomorrow... 😨

Best practice I think is to front load all evidence. For my domicile I submitted bank/financial account information, my state tax transcript, the conditionality terms of my Irish Residence Permit, recent mail I have to my US address, voting record, proof of my frequent visitations to the US (airline itineraries), and correspondence with my mother about our living situation if/when spouse and I get there. The more bait you cast out the more likely you are to get a bite, or something 😉

Voting record is public btw, I was able to get mine by submitting a signed/scanned request to the voting office of the district I vote in. Just having an absentee ballot may not count as proof of voting, because it is not showing you submitted it, just that you have one. I also believe that taking a picture of a filled ballot invalidates it (if it gets out before it's counted I guess), though I'm not too sure, might want to do some searching.

It goes without saying that it's best to have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it. Assuming I'm understanding you correctly and the supervisor is approving you based solely on your transcript, if you are still able to submit documents on CEAC and haven't already uploaded the extra domicile evidence I would definitely do that. Luckily, the turnaround seems to be pretty quick lately, relatively speaking (I had them ask me to resubmit documents for my joint sponsor and got my DQ about a week and a half later). Better to assume they are incompetent and that you'll be asked for that extra evidence again than wait to find out if they're competent. I know this process sucks but putting in the extra effort up front is much better than scrambling later on. In any case, I would go to the interview with all of the other domicile proof you have.

👐

Patience......patience.

And another lockdown is happening 😢. Do you think the embassy will still hold interviews??

Was just wondering about this with spouse...we're thinking that since the embassy is a US building, it follows their rules so they might still stay open. No idea though. I, for one, consider it an essential business, as I'm sure you do. I just checked their website and there hasn't been any updates there or on their twitter. For sure keep an eye out as I will be.

So glad I was able to get out into the country today, I'll have to cherish that experience for the next six weeks 😂🔫 hope you were able to spend your last day of not-quite-but-still-comparatively-free-freedom doing something good as well.

Hi, again! My husband's interview was today. We got a 221(g) at the interview, but for some military records we didn't know we needed, not for anything related to my domicile. They didn't even ask about it, which makes me think submitting all those docs to the NVC portal in advance is the safest way to go. Good luck!

I’m losing my mind! Just feel a level 5 is unnecessary. Any news on the embassy? I spoke with a lady at the doctors office the medical exam takes place and she said she hasn’t heard anything about the embassy not doing interviews due to the lockdown so that’s a positive!

Thanks for the report from the office, hope that bodes well for us! I just had a look on the website (here) and their twitter page and haven't noticed any updates. Their covid information was last updated on the 16th.

Looking at the Ireland portal, it seems that there are people with interviews coming up (the closest seems to be on Friday), so we will have to see if they still go through/what those people update their timelines with. If the embassies are going to close or halt services, those with existing appointments will surely be among the first to know.

True! Have you been scheduled an interview yet? I’m on pins and needles here

Not yet, will definitely update my spaces as soon as I do ✌️

From what I can tell we are probably looking at three or four months or so, judging by how long others have seemed to wait.

Just got bad news - the embassy responded to my email and said they will not continue with interviews until the lockdown ends. I’m devastated.
