You don't seem to realize that DMV rules vary greatly by state.

iam aware of that but DMV's within a state seem to follow various degree of Strictness in terms of when they issue EAD's. Not all DMV's with a state follow the law at the same level

duh

Not true here in Washington.  All drivers who are residents of this state get the full 6 year licenses, regardless of immigration status.

Well Washington probably does not follow immigration rules. They probably will give DL to any one .

duh

I got my driver’s license here in Virginia recently. I’m at the AOS stage but no work permit or anything yet. They allow you to get your DL if you show an unexpired I-94 and I-485/I-765 NOA1. If my I-94 for my K-1 visa had expired before I applied they wouldn’t have allowed me to get one. Instead, I would’ve had to wait for my EAD to get one. My DL is valid for 1 year only. I don’t have a SSN yet and that isn’t an issue either. Oh and they let me use my married name on my DL. I only had to show my marriage certificate

It depends on where you live. I got a full 5 years DL from Connecticut 1 month after I entered the country with K1. I wasn't even married yet, so no AOS pending.

Hi, I am moving to Connecticut on K1 next month! Researching if I could get a DL ASAP as well. I can't seem to find any information in Connecticut DMV website that I can get a DL without a SSN and any legal presence/NOA document from USCIS.  Here is the page in Connecticut DMV I was reading: https://portal.ct.gov/DMV/Licenses/Licenses/Applying-for-a-License/Acceptable-Forms-of-Identification#52355.

Just curious what year you got your DL? Or do you have any reference to share that says I can get a DL in Connecticut without any AOS pending. Maybe the rules have changed after you got yours.  I just want to understand this. Thank you very much.

I got mine last year, but like I mentioned before, I had my SSN and my I-94 wasn't expired.

If your I-94 is valid, you have proof of legal status and you can get a DL with that.

If you apply for a SSN as soon as you arrive (I applied for mine 2 days after arriving and got it 3 weeks later), you will be able to have a SSN on time to apply for DL.

Looks like you are OK with your UK DL for 30 days and then need EAD.

"Due to COVID-19, you must have a scheduled appointment to enter an office." https://www.ssa.gov/coronavirus/ Because of this they will direct you to instead submit SS-5 application by mail. You'll also have to submit your actual passport with the SS-5 application. They won't accept photocopy of the passport.

I am in Florida. I filed for AOS 3 months ago, and yesterday I went to the DMV Office in Kendall, FL. I don't have my EAD card yet, and have not had my biometrics either. They requested my passport with the US visa, the  NOA1 for the I-485, the NOA1 for the I-130, my marriage certificate, my driving license from Colombia, my I-94 which expired 4 days after filing, and my husband's US passport. That was it. I took the written test, and then the driving test. Afterwards, they submitted a status verification request to USCIS through SAVE and gave me a Temporary Driving Permit, valid for 60 days. Within these 60 days, if they verify my legal status, they will issue my driving license and mail it to me.
