Im currently adjusting status, and I managed to get a learners permit. I am ready take the driving test. Does anyone here have experience getting an actual US drivers license while adjusting status? Just curious what's the validity period and which document is the basis of validity period since I do not have a green card yet? I read people who got drivers license after they receive green card, validity is until end of green card. But what if I get drivers license before receiving the green card?

Usually and of course it depends where you are, EAD is the first document you get when adjusting that allows you to get a DL. Some States have DL's for illegals which you may qualify for.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

validity of drivers license is dependent on your legal status document. if your USCIS document expires on XX/YY/202X than DL will also expire on that date . once  there is an extension you go back to DMV and file for renewal

duh

It depends on where you live. I got a full 5 years DL from Connecticut 1 month after I entered the country with K1. I wasn't even married yet, so no AOS pending.

Wow. What year was that? I heard they are more strict with people with no SSN nowadays.

I live in Texas. They require me to give I-797 so I could not even apply until after I apply for green card or I-485.

It was last year. I had my SSN though, I got it 3 weeks after I arrived.

Not necessarily. I got my driver's license in California with my EAD 3 years ago and it's still valid

Not true here in Washington.  All drivers who are residents of this state get the full 6 year licenses, regardless of immigration status.

You don't seem to realize that DMV rules vary greatly by state.

It can depend on what visa you entered on, since you didn't put that we can't give you an answer

People can get as DL if they only have EAD card, and no in your state validity is good for like standard 6 years, they don't care about when you greencard expires.

Some Texas DL applicants have gotten it before EAD was issued: https://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/documents/verifyingLawfulPresence.pdf "Applicants for adjustment of status"

Even those that are adjusting from tourist visa have been able to get Texas DL before EAD.

Correct

You can even get a Texas DL or ID on a K1, but it will have an expiration date 90 days after your entry.    That is what we did with my fiance.
