They have done this before. Did you ever see The Hollow Crown? Sophie Okonedo was fierce as Queen Margaret in part two. I'm always one for historical accuracy as I said before though, but there are productions that tend to focus just on acting chops alone.

It was very good, but I'm always there for anything with Tilda Swinton. Iannucci's other film (and personal favorite) The Death of Stalin did the same thing.

I am adding The Hollow Crown to my list. Looks fantastic and I love Sophie Okonedo. Thanks for the tip! (I have one for you about perry/pear cider which I'll put in the appropriate thread.)

Also, The Death of Stalin was freaking hilarious. Jason Isaacs as Zhukov was amazing, so brilliant to play him as a Yorkshireman.

Oh yes, he is great in that! My appreciation for Steve Buscemi didn't disappoint in this either, and he plays well against Simon Beale's scheming.

Are we ready for a BAME Hitler?

I was trying to remember who played Hitler recently who was non-white, because I recall seeing a movie where that was the case. It was Taika Waititi in Jojo Rabbit -- he's half-Maori, I believe.

And a Kiwi so how could he be BAME

Oh, I wasn't saying BAME, I was saying "non-white." Which isn't exactly what you were saying there (obviously BAME ≠ Maori) but (1) it's sort of in the same vein and (2) I knew there was someone who played Hitler who wasn't white.

I am impressed that they looked for a Macedonian actress!

It wasn't that long ago that casting a "black" stormtrooper in the force awakens was derided as political correctness run amok.

So what would happen if say there is a film about Obama and they have a Chinese actor in the lead role.

Would Progressives be jumping up and down in joy about the Diversity?

I don't think they looked hard enough as there are plenty of beautiful actresses that fit the bill.

Did you know there is a Chinese actor that is an Obama impersonator? Think he got popular some years ago and wanted to make it big.. in China at least.

Fred Armisen routinely impersonated Obama. Don't think many complained (there were some) but there were plenty of perfectly fine African American actors that could do the job.

And Armisen is part Korean as well. Not Chinese, obviously, but Asian.

I had wondered if they thought being an excellent actress was important. Then I remembered the final casting decision. :P
