EAD for Children

My wife got her notice today that her EAD was approved and the card would be coming in a separate mail. We didn't get a notice for the kids that are under 12. Has anyone here applied  I-765 based for children. Did you get the approval notice at the same time as the adult? Just wondering if the are issues since I figured they would get at the same time as everything was filed at the same time and the biometrics were the same time too.

Why/how would children qualify for an employment authorization?? You can’t work in the United States until you are 16... we don’t condone child labor here lol

Children qualify for EADs even if they can't legally work.  Having an EAD helps gets a Social Security Number for the child.  That's important when filing US tax returns since only certain tax benefits are available to children with SSN.

USCIS issues EADs to young children all the time. As EAD holders they become eligible for SSN as their I-485 is still pending.

Yep see aaron2020 reply. I can't claim certain tax benefits if they don't have a SSN and  I will lose out on thousand .  The $500 covid rebate is based on them having a SSN. Also you can work in agriculture at age 12. I worked at 12 detasseling corn,,,, but no they are not going to work.

Crazy!! Thanks for the clarification and knowledge. Seems like there should be a much smoother (less paperwork) way for kids to obtain a SSN than to Apply for an EAD. Seems like unnecessary work for USCIS as well if there was a better way for kids to get their SSN it could release some of the burden on USCIS.

its not necessary that USCIS approve all EAD's at the same time. So in your case there might be a lag for children EAD to arrive.

And it's going to become more expensive if the government wins in the court case that is currently blocking the fee schedule changes:

 

Also note that K-2 children also have to wait for either EAD or GC to get SSN.

My husband received his EAD on sept 28th but no decision has been made on my 2 children. I keep checking daily and no news yet. I’m hoping to at least get them by years end So they can have socials. Fingers crossed!

Well we never got the kids EAD but today we were notified that the wife and kids interview has been scheduled.  Hopefully we get the notice soon and the date is soon. Now we just have to get the medical exams done.
