Hello,

I am a German citizen marrying an American. We are getting married here in August and already prepare for our move to the States.

Therefore, I was wondering if one of you - who already have experience with DCF - could help me with some questions.

We know that we are eligible for the DCF and are going to file it early August. Here are my questions:

1. While the filing is in process, do you know if I could fly to the states and enter as a tourist for 90 days or will I be denied entry because I filed for DCF (I know that on a K-3 I could travel to the States while the Visa is being processed)?

2. Does my husband (American) have to attend the interview in Frankfurt or can I go by myself (or bring some other support)?

3. I saw that for some Visas the USCIS requires vaccinations ... are there any vaccinations required for the DCF (if so, I would like to get started on that as some vaccinations take several shots and need waiting time in between)?

Thank you for your help!

Crossing my fingers for everybody in the process! B)

1. That's fine. You need to prove that you will return to Germany - ie, letter from employer and lease/mortgage. They have the right to deny you entry to the US, but you should be fine with proof of return.

2. You can go by yourself. I don't know about bringing someone else - my guess is they could come with you to the building, possibly not in the building, and I would think not to the actual interview.

3. Yes, the medical exam and vaccination requirements are the same no matter how you file. It's a good idea to get them done in advance if you don't already have them all.

Hi. Just make sure the vaccine shots you get are age-appropriate. No sense in getting every shot on the list. I'm sure your doctor will tell you what's needed for your age. Any "official" vaccination history you may have will help to show the doctor.

I'm also assuming that your American fiance is currently living with you in Germany and that he can satisfy the residency requirement. That's the biggest hurdle now since the changes stemming from the Adam Walsh Act.

Check this link out as well:

Good luck.

bricassart - for DCF you need to be married, which they are. Fiances are not eligible for DCF.

julchenno, it is VERY, VERY important to make sure that your husband meets the residency requirements - they vary from country/consulate to another.- Always, your best bet is to contact the consulate - or also post in the Germany/Europe forum, I'm sure you'll get a lot of advise!!!

Welcome to DCF!!!

But I thought they weren't getting married until this August...that's why my assumption that the USC has already established residency in Germany prior to getting married?

briccasart,

You're right, they're getting married in August (congrats by the way!!!). As far as residence requirements, they vary from country to country (some don't require residence for DCF filing), reason why they need to check in with Frankfurt - or with folks in the Germany forum. B)

Peace, L.

First hand experience: You don't have to have the residency the consulate wants to marry in Germany. You do have to have a boatload of other ####### including having your proposed marriage being approved by some superior court off somewhere for the German authorities.

Hi guys,

thanks soo much for your help!! :-)) We already called the consulate in Frankfurt and they will accept my finances German residency (Meldebescheinigung). So we are fine concerning that.

I am very insecure about flying to the states while filing though. He probably wants to leave in September to get everything established (job, apartment, car, etc.). If I just knew that it wouldn't take too long with the DCF! ;-)) We checked the applications that are being processed through Frankfurt right now and there are not too many (about 140).

Yeah, wacko is right, getting all the paperwork approved to get married here in Germany was a pain in the bu** ;-). But we overcame that obsticle and we'll also do the consulate! ;-))

I'll keep you posted! :D

Are you worried because you don't have much proof of your return? If you have a letter from an employer and a copy of a lease/mortgage plus your return ticket, you really shouldn't worry much. If you don't have proof of like that, there's probably still something you could take, but I could see being worried in that situation.
