I recently applied for AOS under marriage to USC from F-1 student visa. I just graduated and already have SSN and OPT card. However, I changed my middle and last name during the marriage.
I wonder if I can bring my marriage certificate to SSA and get my name change? Or I need to wait for the EAD card to come in order to do so? Do I need to let my school know that I just got married and my name changed?
I’m going to start working soon under OPT. Should my employee use my maiden name for all the paperwork and then change it later when I receive the EAC card? Or should they use my married name? Since it won’t match with my OPT card and current SSN.

Thank you so much in advance!

You can change your name with your marriage certificate.  My SS office isn't open, so I had to mail the original with the application to the SSN office - they mailed it all back.  Check online or call to find out if your local office is open due to Covid.

I am in a similar situation. I changed my name in school with the marriage certificate only. But they wouldn't change the name on my I-20, only in the school records.

I worked during the summer. My employer used my maiden name for all the paperwork but I used my married name for everything else - emails, introductions, etc.

I don't have OPT but I do have a valid I-20 till January 2021. I have SSN from before. I also wanted to try to change the name on my SSN but the SS office is closed. I am a bit concerned to send original passport - because if it gets lost, it will be a pain to get a new one issued. Also, I was wondering whether I can change the name on my SS card with I-20 only (without OPT and before the EAD has arrived)?
