Info on timeframe to get SS card and Green card. We were told it would take 1-2 weeks, my wife has been her 4 weeks and nothing has come in the mail as of yet. She and her daughter ar CR-1. Thanks

it take approx 3 to 4 weeks to get the green card, after you receive it take it to the Social security Office and apply for the SSN which takes approx 10 days.

The same here, I am in the fourth week in the States and nothing about SSN....last week I got the Welcome letter from USCIS so it means i will get my GC soon.....I am still waiting for the SSN .....

You won't het SSn without applying ofr it at the Social Security office after you get your green card

Thanks KS, I checked the box on the DS-230 part 2 about a SSN to be assigned to me so I was hopping I gonna get it in the mail. I didn't go to get a SSN because I didn't want to end up having two numbers.

A lot of people here checked that box also, some get the SSN, others have to go to the SSA office and apply in person.

It is probably 1 - 2 weeks after the SSA gets the transfer of information from the USCIS that you are now present in the country... This could also take a couple weeks....

It usually takes 3-4 weeks. Don't worry, you will receive your GC. First, you should receive a "Welcoem to United States" letter from USCIS, Mesquite, TX. You will receive your GC few days after the welcome letter from the same location. For SS card, sometimes, people don't receive it right away, though the tick mark on DS 230 part I. You should go to the local SS office and talk to them. They will check whether your names are on thier system or not. If needed, they will ask you to apply for the SS card right away. Make sure, your wife takes her passport with CR-1 visa to the SS office.

Thanks all for assistance as usual. We did check DS-230 box to have SS processed with the application. I called USCIS today and found out they did not get from airport till June 19th, so theairport held on to the paper work for 20 days They mentioned should be getting a welcome letter soon since it was recieved in Texas. So good news, nothing lost. So we will continue to wait for the process Patience and Pesistance!!! I did also find out today, the IRS never recieved my April 15th filing of my wifes ITIN and my tax return, so they recommend refiling and waiting another 10-16 weeks for my return!! I think Iwill wait for her SS card and file electronically. Good luck to all!!

I got my greencard after 6 weeks and I did go to the SS Office and applied for a card 5 days after my arrival and got it a week later. I also checked the box, but the immigration officer in Chicago told me I had to go get the SSN myself, so I did!

My husband just received an email today that he should be receiving his green card soon. He has been here for 5 weeks. We are going to drive to the Social S Office when we receive it. Plus I still need a new card with my new last name. So we can change everything. I want to go to the office to its in my old town so I can show him where I use to live. So it should be fun hold in there. It will be here soon. I think its taking about 6 weeks now of days.

We finally got one green card in the mail today!! I called USCIS and they gave me a SCR case number to track our paper work on-line. Looks like everything is coming along, just waiting for daughters green card, wife's came on Tuesday. Called Social Security office and they have no info, so when daughters Green card comes, I will do as others have done and go and re-apply.

Thanks! We went to SS office and they said that they had no record of SS application. Its been 6 weeks, so we applied at office. I must say, I had to pay $10 - $20 bribe money for documents in Ukraine, but I recieved everything on time as they stated and with no mistakes. Over half the documents I processed with the US was lost, incorrectly entered and none were delivered as promised. Says alot about our American process.
