NVC assigned the wrong embassy

Hello,

We got our I-129F approved in September. A week ago we called the NVC to get our case # and we just realized last night that it's assigned to go to a wrong embassy/consulate (to Germany instead Spain). We checked our i-129F to make sure that we picked Madrid, Spain, and everything was right. Not sure if that happened because I lived there previously, but all the information about my address and the embassy for the interview is correct in our I-129F.

I already contacted them through AskNVC. Any advice?? Our NVC status is still "At NVC" but if it gets shipped, would be an option taking my interview in that embassy or will I have to request the transfer of the embassy to Spain? From what I have read, to take the interview in another country you have to be a resident of that country. Is that right?

Thank you for your time!

You generally can not interview somewhere unless you have valid residency there. So if it goes to Germany you would need to have documentation that you are a resident there for Germany to process you. I suggest you contact your congressman for assistance with this. There are various posts on VJ about how to do such. They can inquire for you and get confirmation its being sent to the correct place. Ideally you want to do everything you can to ensure its sent to the correct place. If its not it will cause additional delays for them to get it transferred.

Usually where your petition is sent to is based on the beneficiary's current residence (as of when you submitted the form), not which consulate you picked. I've said before that I don't know why they even bother to ask.

This just happened to me as well. Our case has been assigned to the Montreal embassy in Canada instead of Sydney, Australia and I have no idea why.  When I called and got the case number they mentioned Canada and I said that wasn't right and they said they would contact a supervisor but that was it.

We finally got it fixed quicker than expected... We first called them when we realized that and they told us to fill that asknvc inquiry form online. We did that but since we didn't get any confirmation back to my email or anything we decided to send a copy directly from my email and also adding to subject: ATTN PI SUPERVISOR.. it really worked! some hours after they sent us our new case. Hope this helps you!

ok, thank you for the update. I am going to wait a couple days then call again. What did you send directly from your email? You mentioned a copy - was it a copy of the asknvc form? If so what email address did you use?

Yes! The same message that we sent them through the asknvc form but adding our details like case number, names and dates of birth. I sent that email to asknvc@state.gov
