Hi everyone,

My CR-1 visa was approved at the beginning of August (Paris embassy) and expires on the 30th of January. My wife and I are scheduled to travel to the US at the beginning of January after my job notice period ends. With COVID picking up again these days, I am a little afraid of potential new travel restrictions / flight cancellations or anything else that would prevent us from leaving on time and entering the US at a POE before my visa expires.

In order to limit that risk, we were thinking of taking a short trip to the east coast in one or two weeks to basically get the stamp and leave a few days after so that we don't have to worry about the visa expiration date. In this context, my questions are:

  • Has anyone had any experience doing this?
  • Would this cause me any trouble at the POE?
  • Could I have problem passing the border in January with my stamped CR-1 visa?

Thanks a lot for all your answers and good luck in your visa processes

Not a problem. Sounds like a good move. Just make sure you’re back in the US sooner rather than later after finishing in France. Up to 6 months out isn’t an issue at all.
