Ok, we just sent Luz and Robin's AOS forms. They got there today. At some point I know they must go in for the biometrics appointment. As far as I can tell the closest center is in Chicago. (We are in Peoria about 3 hours from Chicago) When they must go in for the biometrics and later the interview will we be going to Chicago? Is there somewhere that lists possibly closer places to go? Also, I sent Luz and Robins forms at the same time. Will they have their biometrics appointment at the same time? If they have an interview will that also be at the same time?

Thanks for your help.

Hi. My wife and I live about 2 hours from Chicago and she had her biometrics in Naperville on 6/14/07. Her case was sent to CSC (in California) on 6/13/07. It is my understanding that she won't have to have an interview because cases sent to CSC are sent there to speed up the process. I hope this info will help you. If you have any further questions, just ask me and maybe I can help you.

I did try typing the zip code in the locators below right after I sent the AOS application to Chicago lockbox.

So I knew what to expect, true enough I had my biometrics done in the resulting ASC, and the interview local CIS office, based on the zipcode. I don't know for others. And don't rule out the possibility of service center transfers.

For the interview https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=of....office_type=LO

for the ASC (biometrics) https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=of...office_type=ASC

Looks like Chicago (Naperville) for the biometrics. Long way for us to go.

I know it sucks to have to drive such a distance for a fifteen minute appointment (biometrics). Bruce and I have to 4-ish hour trip ahead of us Wednesday afternoon to New Orleans for my biometrics appointment on Thursday morning. So eight hours or so of driving plus one night at a motel= a pretty expensive fifteen minute appointment.

The sad part is, there isn't anything we can do about it.

Maybe sent there to shorten the processing times, but it is not an automatic guaranty that an AOS interview will not be required/performed.

YMMV

Aren't there "limited" local offices that are closer? For example, we only had to drive 20 miles to York PA for the biometrics in a USCIS office that seemingly only exists to take fingerprints and snap photos. For our interview, we would have to go to the Philadelphia service center which offers a greater array of services. Philly would be 150-miles away.

No, is the simple answer in this case. I'm kind of surprised there isn't a ASC in Peoria as its really the only largish urban area in that part of Illinios.

Oh and York, PA might be only 20 miles from you, but it was also where I had my biometrics and its 125 miles from me. Its luck of the draw really. Of course York is closer than where I had my interview (Philly @ 200 miles).

BJZags,

fingerprint and photo services are provided at Application Support Centers, not at District and Sub offices where applications are handled.

Although sometimes an ASC will be co-located with a DO or SO there are two separate USCIS facilities in Phildelphia - an ASC and a DO - and they are not at the same location. There is no service center in Philly.
