Hi,

I'm having trouble finding a concrete answer to my question online so hopefully one of you wonderful people will be able to help!

I left the US in March 2020 and have an I-551 stamp that is due to expire in early December 2020. I have filed the I-90 since my 10 year green card was never delivered (this is why I have the I-551 stamp in the first place).

My question is whether I can allow the I-551 stamp to expire, and still be eligible to re-enter the US so long as I do so before March 2021 (as then I will have been outwith the US for less than 1 year), or do I need to go back before my stamp expires in December 2020, and get a new stamp in the US?

Also, am I correct in thinking that it is not possible to get an I-551 stamp at the London US embassy?

Thanks,

Yes, CBP can still verify your LPR status at POE. But boarding a flight might be difficult. Maybe you could try CBP Preclearance at Dublin or Shannon, Ireland?
