Calling USCIS

I know it's kind of frowned upon to call USCIS. But we filed back in March and have heard NOTHING since the receipt notice. Nothing about biometrics or anything. Field office is Baltimore but in the past they have sent us to Pittsburgh for biometrics. I know our case is still within the normal time frame for Baltimore (12.5 to 27.5 months), but would it be so terrible to call them and see what's going on? We sent an email through the online account and haven't heard back.

I guess I should be grateful that it's "only" been 6 months, but not being a citizen is really disrupting my husband's career.

K-1 Process:

12/04/15 - Engaged (L)

12/17/15 - K-1 submitted

12/31/15 - NOA1

02/09/16 - NOA2

03/16/16 - NVC case number assigned

03/17/16 - In transit to consulate

03/22/16 - "Ready" on CEAC tracker

04/14/16 - Received packet 3 by email

04/15/16 - Medical exam

04/28/16 - Interview - Approved!

05/25/16 - POE at Miami

07/08/16 - Married! (L)

08/09/16 - Filed for AOS

08/12/16 - Case received

Yes, March 2020. I know, I shouldn't complain right? But then I see other posters saying they applied in June, same field office, and already had an interview. Happy for them but it doesn't make any sense.

It definitely doesn’t make sense they’ve had an interview less than 4 months after application, when the normal time frame is one to over two years for your field office. It sounds like that is a very strange exception (unless you misunderstood and it’s June last year??) and not something you should judge your own case by.

and yes, you are unlikely to get anything other than a non-response response when sending inquiries within the normal processing time frame. USCIS page lists receipt date for a case enquiry for Baltimore as July 2018.... Many of us had to wait much longer than 6 months to get naturalized, even before Covid and all its interruptions.  You can call if you want, but don’t expect to be told anything of substance or probably anything at all other than it’s undergoing normal processing.

Thanks all. It just seems so strange to not even have been notified of biometrics. Guess I'm looking for an outlet for the frustration. I'm used to waiting with USCIS but this has been the hardest one by far.

Does anyone have any updates about calling USCIS?  My husband filed for AOS back in October 2019, and our case status online says that they've been ready to schedule an interview since January, right before COVID hit, but we never got any further communication from them.  He said he spoke to some of his coworkers/friends who were also waiting for green cards but came here on a work visa.  They called USCIS and were actually told over the phone that they were approved and would be sent a green card without an interview.  One of his coworkers received their green card in the mail recently this way.  They also encouraged us to call, but I don't want to be disappointed if their case was a rare exception or only because they came on a different visa.
