Hi,

We are considering the purchase of an Alexa Echo Plus 2nd Gen

I wonder if a UK purchased unit will work in USA?

Grateful for some advice.

Why wouldn't it work? The only thing you have to worry about is the power.

I have been advised previously that UK TVs will work but only after some adjustments which, I was advised, made it less than cost effective.

I presume you have knowledge of whether Alexa UK will work correctly in US? You mention the only thing to worry about was "power". Should that be a concern?

TV compatibility is a whole different ball game....PAL vs NTSC....I see no reason to think a UK-purchased  Alexa device would not work fine in the US.  I have purchased internet-connected devices in the US and used them in France, Aruba, Taiwan, UK, and other places.

Voltage is the concern for electronics. The UK runs on 220v whereas the US uses 140v or thereabouts, significantly less.

It’s best to verify whether the echo is dual voltage or multi voltage; it will be stated somewhere online if it is. Best to trust official amazon sources.

I purchased a Nintendo switch while in the US a couple weeks ago and have since brought it back to the UK. It’s a multi voltage device so only needed a charger/plug converter for it to be used here without issue.

If you plan on purchasing or taking lots of electronics with you to the US (if you are moving), a power converter might be something to think about.

Hopefully that’s at least a little helpful.

A wide range of modern electronics work on AC input between 100-240 volts.

That is televisions which is different than a wifi enabled device like this. As to the power you need to make sure that it can handle both 120 and 220 volts. Also check the actual.plug because you might need is a different plug

I have Alexa set so she speaks to me in English, go to settings. Uses a USB supply.

But does she speak with an English accent?

Yes she is intelligible.

Not a problem at all trust me. My wife is the same way most of the time. I honestly think that my 2nd grader has more computer know how than her mom.

I, on the other hand have been working in the electronics, telecommunications, and IT field since 2002. So I am well versed in everything when it comes to most technologies.
