Hi there

I have my interview tomorrow in Montreal for my CR1 interview. I just want to make sure (or if anyone can link me somewhere, because im having trouble finding the answer) are we allowed to bring our purse/phone in the consulate with us?

I ask because back in 2012 I had to go to the US consulate in Vancouver B.C for a previous K-1 visa interview (to my ex husband) and the consulate would absolutly not let me come in with my purse/cellphone and that was for everyone. I had travelled on bus+skytrain+walking and it took my 2 hrs to get there and I had to resort to leaving my stuff with a manager at a restaurant across the street from the consulate. It was an absolute NIGHTMARE and dont want to go through that again.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

All Embassy visitors and their personal belongings must pass through security screening before entering into the building.  For reasons of safety and security, visitors may not bring these prohibited items into the Embassy:

  • Cellphones, computers,  and other electronic devices
  • Media devices such as CD’s, thumb drives, SD cards, headphones, speakers, etc.
  • Cameras or video equipment
  • Flashlights
  • Lighters and matches
  • Weapons or any item which can be used as a weapon
  • Knives and other sharp objects
  • Purses and bags larger than 18” x 18”
  • Liquids, gels, aerosols, oils, lotions, or powder (exceptions below)

YMMV

They have storage lockers for small devices such as phones. Small bags (12 x 10 x 6 inches or smaller) are allowed in but large ones will need to be stored at the nearby mall.

You can put your cards in your pockets, or in a smaller wallet, or an envelope, if your purse is larger than the lockers there.
