Hello there,

I was planning to apply for naturalization through marriage but my total days for continuous residence are quite on the nose.

I know it's possible to apply three months early. ASSUMING you don't travel during that period, are there further restrictions on travel thereafter?

For example, let's say you apply January, get biometrics February, and then reach the total days requirement in April. Interview and ceremony are November/December. Will travel after April become problematic?

Many thanks for any input!

It could be, depending how long it is. For continuous residence, “An applicant for naturalization under the general provision[1] must have resided continuously in the United States after his or her lawful permanent resident (LPR) admission for at least 5 years prior to filing the naturalization application and up to the time of naturalization. ”. So any travel outside for longer than 180 consecutive days will be presumed to break continuous residence https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-12-part-d-chapter-3

It seems to me that for physical presence, by contrast, it is only calculated up to filing date https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-12-part-d-chapter-4
