Heavy fighting continued among Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenian and Azerbaijan forces Saturday in the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, an ethnic Armenian region in Azerbaijan.

Armenian and Azerbaijani forces seemingly ignored calls this week by the U.S., France and Russia for an immediate cease-fire in Nagorno-Karabakh, where fighting has escalated in recent days to levels not seen since the 1990s.

Armenian separatists seized Nagorno-Karabakh, formerly an autonomous territory within Azerbaijan, in a bloody war in the 1990s that killed an estimated 30,000 people.

Talks to resolve the conflict have been halted since a 1994 cease-fire agreement among Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Peace efforts in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, mediated by the Minsk Group, comprised of the United States, France and Russia, collapsed in 2010.

Been watching this conflict and it seems to be getting more intense.

There are so many enclaves that formed after the dissolution of the former USSR.  It is not surprising that many of them are resulting in ethnic conflicts.  This is sort of a proxy war between Turkey and Russia.  I am a little more concerned over the growing border conflicts between India and China.

Would they not be better protesting outside a news organisation?

If one side took up that cause, there would be a large calling for the US to intervene on that side.

Lots of news on this from LA -- protesters have shut down the 170 and the 101 over the past few days. Local and state politicians have come out to join the protests as well.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Protesters in support of Armenia in its continuing conflict with Azerbaijan temporarily blocked both sides of the 170 Freeway in North Hollywood on Sunday evening.

The demonstrators draped themselves with Armenian flags and occupied freeway lanes, prompting traffic to come to a standstill.

An unlawful assembly was declared and officials were working to reopen the roadways, with traffic flowing southbound as of 6:17 p.m. It took about an hour to get both sides of the freeway moving again.

This is the second day of consecutive protests in L.A. County organized by Armenian human rights groups.

And in Glendale, more protests: https://abc7.com/society/hundreds-gather-in-glendale-as-protests-supporting-armenia-continue/6809446/

Hundreds of peaceful protesters Monday night flooded streets and intersections in Glendale once again in support of Armenia in its conflict with Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Protesters marched along Glenoaks Boulevard as the massive crowd stopped traffic for more than one hour.

The protest follows other demonstrations over the weekend, which included demonstrators blocking the 101 Freeway in Hollywood and the 170 Freeway in North Hollywood.

Earlier on Monday, local leaders including Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Rep. Adam Schiff stood in solidarity with Armenia.

Last week in Brentwood, not far from me: https://abc7.com/society/las-armenian-community-demonstrates-outside-azerbaijan-consulate/6683173/

Thousands of people gathered Wednesday evening at the Azerbaijan Consulate General in the West Los Angeles area to protest what they call Azerbaijan's aggression against Armenia and the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Artsakh.

Demonstrators were on Wilshire Boulevard, with several waving Armenian flags.

This sought of thing used to happen in London, all very annoying, actually might be happening in London.

You want to demonstrate well why are they doing it there, they want to partake, well go home and do it.

If I did not like something happening in the UK what would be the point of going down to Denver and waiving a flag on 16th Street?

Probably because LA and the LA area are home to the largest population of Armenians outside of Armenia, and here we have the freedom of speech and assembly. If voices cannot be heard loud and clear on the ground over there, getting the signal amplified to a greater audience here is useful for increasing political pressure, especially for the US to do something.

Do what? What has it to do with the US?

Who cares?

You obviously have never lived in or around Los Angeles. This is because Armenians are EVERYWHERE..... The homebased is Glendale where they control the city now and they are branching out to Burbank, North Hollywood, and Pasadena. There are more Armenians in the LA area than in the entire capital of Armenia.
