Hello everyone!

I received my immigrant visa (CR1) yesterday and I consider about moving. Besides I still study in Germany and I would like to come back in February to write some exams. So my question is when would it be possible to travel back after entering the US. Should I receive SSN and GC first? How long will it take?

You can depart the US on the very next plane after you arrive, if you so wish. You do not need to wait for the plastic green card or your SSN card to arrive in the mail. Upon arrival, your passport will be stamped and the stamp and the visa are evidence of being a permanent resident until the actual green card arrives. You are free to travel in and out of the country as you wish but the US must be your main residence. 

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

 

Now a US citizen!
