HI,

It's a green card actually. The only thing needing to be done is to lift conditions on it, which must be done 90 days prior to the beneficiary's 2 year anniversary in the US.

okay.. but what are the restrictions on leaving the US once you enter (i.e for holidays.. etc..)

How long before you can apply for Citizenship ?

No restrictions at all cept having to lift conditions 90 days before your green card is 2 years old!!!....mark it on ya calender,

I am not 100% sure about citizenship but i think if you are married to your spouse for 3 years, after that you can apply

but if i'm wrong someone will be along soon to let us both know

EDITED to say....you can leave for holidays etc, but not for years or you will lose your residence status!!

I am along soon enough ;)

3 years of marriage from activating your CR1 visa by entering the country.

For other applications it is 5 year of permanent residency. Of course other rules apply too

Can conditions be lifted right away after recieving the green card? I mean, can you start doing the paperwork to have conditions lifted? I was under the impression that you had to wait two years BEFORE you could lift conditions. Could someone please clarify? Thanks.

The Immigrant Visa CR-1/IR-1 is valid for 6 months from the date of issue, during which time you must use it for its one and only entry.

Once you enter, you are granted Permanent Resident status. Your proof of this status is your endorsed visa in your passport, and then your Green Card.

There are significant restrictions on Permanent Residents.

You should really read about your new status and your rights and responsibilities:

If you've been married less than 2 years (and your PR status is based on marriage to a USC) you have to check back in 2 years to show you have a bonafide marriage. This is called Removing Conditions & there is a forum here devoted to it.

All the info you need is in the pinned post:

If you want to naturalize to US citizenship, you are given a waiver on the length of time you must be a PR before applying. That is one of many considerations.

There is a forum here devoted to the topic. All the important info is contained in the pinned post:

MrsBruce,

No, its not a green card actually.

An immigrant visa holder is not granted LPR status until they are admitted to the USA. Then the visa will be endorsed at the POE to act as an interim green card until the card is manufactured and delivered.
