Hello everyone
My fiancé was planning on coming to my country this December but, sadly our borders still restrict USA citizens.

Is it possible to get a tourist visa while having a pending k-1 visa? Also if so would we have to file two separate ds-160 applications?
thank you for your help

It is possible, but the likelihood of success hinges on your ability to convince the CO and CBP that you intend to return to your country.  You have nothing to risk, but the fee.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Are there any specific things I should provide to show that I will return home?

There is no guarantee that the CO will even look at it.....but things like leases, employment letters, reasons you need to return are generally helpful.

Most unlikely they will look at anything else but take what you have, the information required is on the application form.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Each visa application has a separate DS-160 and fee. You are not prohibited from applying for a tourist visa. But you are not guaranteed to get one. If you can risk losing $160 then have a go and see what happens. Please report back on whether your application was successful or not as it helps others and this forum only works if people help each other.

The only way to find out for sure is to go and apply when the consulates resume routine visa processing.  But, set your expectations low.  It will be difficult (but not impossible) to convince the consul officer that you intend to return to your home country when there is a pending K1 petition for you.  Others have already mentioned examples of evidence to bring.

Note that the DS-160 explicitly lists fiance as an immediate relative, so you must provide your fiance's information in that section of the form.

When you fill out the application you would list your current job which shows ties to your country. I can't remember if the application has you list assets/bank account etc. Documents you bring may or may not looked at. Honestly though you have already shown immigrant intent so it even if you have a job and mortgage it will obviously end when you have your k1. It would be best for you guys to meet up in a third country in my opinion.

There is no section for assets/bank accounts in the DS-160.  There is a field for monthly income in the Employment section.

The consul officer asked about my savings during my B2 visa interview, but he didn't want to look at my financial documents when I offered to show them.

Thank you for everyone helpful advice.
we decided to do a visit in the Republic of Ireland where both requires no visa. :)

as we personally don’t want to risk a denial and that type of mess it could lead to.
