I'm not sure I understand what you're saying about those in the US.

But yeah no end in sight, wish they'd come up with a new plan something like starting immigrant visa interviews in other consulates in Mexico 😪

I was just dreaming about undocumented persons currently living in the US being able to stay in the US for their Visa interview once their 601a is approved and NVC case closed :)

Opening up other Mexican US consulates for visa interviews would also be wonderful

It been a while since I posted here we got our visa in June and October 3rd we arrived in the USA. Things a going slow for now with quarantine around and not having any documents on hands.

However we got another trouble with papers, this time with SSN. After 3 weeks we were supposed to receive it, and we didn't get it in result we ended up calling SSA office to figure out why that happen, and apparently they have no information about my unless the one printed on my visa, so then need to schedule another interview, which can not be done unless you have urgent reasons to receive it. So now it seems our only way to receive it it either getting insurance which will request SSN for me or get an job employer to request it upon hiring.

Does anyone know anything about this and how better resolve it?

I wouldn't like to rush into first job just to get SSN. We were planning to get insurance, but not sure if they will request a SSN.

What identification and entry to the US documents do you have? Was your passport stamped with the temporary I-551 stamp valid for 1 year?

Perfect. You need your passport along with the IR1 stamp, your original or certified copy of your birth certificate to apply for a SSN. You would complete and submit the SS5 application along with your documents. Due to the panademic, all SSA offices are closed for public entry. However, if you call your local SSA office they can tell you their current procedures to submit everything and obtain your SSN.

The SS5 form can be found here- https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ss-5.pdf. Your local SSA office can be found here by entering your zipcode-https://secure.ssa.gov/ICON/main.jsp

Yes actually in New Jersey I called all 3 offices, first to figure out what's wrong, then to figure out what to do. First person told me I need to wait for my permanent green card, which was not correct, another person told that I takes up to 8 weeks to transfer data from DHS, another person was the most helpful and told me that it seems that my data is lost and you need to redo the interview and schedule an appointment, but you need to qualify to schedule one. Which mean you need to have a job offer or health insurance request to provide SSN.

I couldn't get a job offer since getting SSN and going through background check would take up to 1.5 month from now and that's way too long for the employer as well as risky.

And I'm not sure how to get a request from insurance company.

So today I tried to play a fool and just call and ask for appointment because I need one, 2 people working there told they will ask manager to schedule an appointment and call us back, but I highly doubt that's true.

I also went to the forums and saw this issue is quite common to not getting SSN since pandemic started. Some people waiting for SSN since March, some people managed to get an appointment, one lady from NJ managed to get an appointment for mid December when she was calling in mid September.

That actually sounds like a nightmare to me, since I can't do anything without it.

Anything after 30 days, you should apply for one directly through Social Security. There's no need to wait a long time for DHS to send your information over to them. Unfortunately, that may never happen. Pre pandemic you could just go right in with the documents and form I previously mentioned. They process it and a card would be received within two weeks at most.

If the manager doesn't call back tomorrow, I would suggest three options. One call the national number at 1-800-772-1213 and let them know you need an appointment to apply for a first time card. It's a dire need due to needing a SSN for insurance purposes. If your spouse's insurance company requires the SSN, maybe they can give you a letter stating it's needed to insure you. Second, make copies of your documents, complete the form and mail it to the local office with a tracking option. So you know it's been delivered and you can follow-up. Last option, call back and let them know you need to talk to the manager its a dire need issue. Make sure you get the names of the representative and manager you talk to going forward as well. This is too important to get "tossed around".

Hm that sounds good, so far they were super unresponsive and didn't wanna give us a chance to schedule an appointment.

Unfortunately I can not get covered by my spouse plan since he is covered by his parents. I was planning either to obtain my own or just wait till I get cover by jobs insurance.

I will try other options tomorrow and hopefully will get a result.

I'm sorry they've responded that way. I hope one of the options I listed is successful. If you apply for insurance on your own, the company should be able to give you a "refusal letter" if it comes down to that. I really hope you can get a resolution quickly. Please keep us posted with any updates.
