We tried to reach NVC yesterday and we got a case no and invoice no from them. Case has gone to Montreal embassy, we do not know the dates but the person gave all the details.
I am able to get my case details from https://ceac.state.gov/.

Can someone suggest which option one has to go with, though the K1 application is done by mailing the documents, I am able to view my case by putting in case no and invoice no in ceac.state.gov/iv, is that how it works. Below information is what is see:

K visas are nonimmigrant visas that assist spouses or future spouses of American citizens in entering the United States. As with all nonimmigrant visa applicants, a DS-160 must be filled out in order for a consular section to process the case.

Can someone suggest is filling DS-160 the next step or to pay fees. What is the next communication that will be received by the applicant, is that called P3? Apologies, still trying to understand all the required information and processing steps hereafter.

I was able to call into NVC and get my case number and invoice number as well.

Updated our e-mails too while on the phone, but the operator made it sound like our case hasn't been sent to the Montreal embassy yet.

I'll suggest a lot of your answers can be found in the PDF that I authored, and you can get a copy on the first page, first post of this thread. There you will find everything you need to do at this stage with phone numbers, links to documents and other nuggets of fun facts.

Here is the answer you will find contained within the PDF. You enter "immigrant" as your visa type as that is how it is treated at this stage. Once your visa is going to be issued you will look that up using "non-immigrant". The K-1 is a non-immigrant with immigration intent. Don't ask why, it's just how it's been since you were born.

I'm not going to repeat the answers to your other questions as they have been answered in the PDF. Good luck and stay engaged.

Did you go to ceac.state.gov and place your inquiry there? Instructions are in the PDF.

People, People and you other People. I have been answering question for at least 6 years. The questions you are asking have been asked a thousand times before. When you joined the thread, it is recommended that you get caught up on the conversations that have taken place as you might find it informative and I wouldn't have to hear the question for the 1001 time. :girlwerewolf2xn:So go to the beginning and read forward and make it a time of learner. BTW, there is a PDF file on the first post that gives you all the information you will need at this stage. It's free. I guarantee that it will get you to your visa interview much quicker.  Hi-yo, SIL-VER... a-wayyyyyyyyy!

The Pdf does help but no mention at all of DS-160 or what to do if a person wants to get ahead on the paperwork..The CEAC inquiry is confusing having to select immigrant rather than non. .. thankfully you explain that in the PDF.   Are you guys saying your case number was just given out at CEAC and the status shows its been sent  on  to Canada so quickly??

I wrote about this in the third bullet point in the "What's Next" at the top of the page. That bullet point then refers you to # 14 and #15 which has changed and needs an up date to read "#15 & #16".

CEAC doesn't give out case numbers that's a function of the NVC. You use the case number to receive the current status of your visa or process. Shipments can go out every other week or which was the normal shipping time pre-pandemic. Each embassy is different than others. Yours is different from Canada.

Getting ahead on the paperwork for the embassy and that requires an advance copy. That was covered in the PDF and how to get a copy. It's all explained in the PDF.

If I have missed something or you need more clarification than be a little more specific with your questions, then I will address them for you. No problem. Good luck and stay engaged.

It's been almost 2 months since we received our NOA2 -- We've contacted the NVC twice and they said they haven't received the approval notice yet and just to call back in x weeks...

I understand that things are much slower moving right now, but I'm seeing that other people (Canadians like me) who received their NOA2s around (or after) we did getting their NVC case numbers assigned..

I'm just wondering if it's looked upon negatively if the beneficiary contacts the NVC? My fiance works nights and will be asleep for several hours but I'm stressing myself out and think I would feel better if I contacted them..

Edit: I'm just worried that something's been lost or misplaced since this is outside even the extended waiting times for this. Since right now something going wrong completely derails the process, and I haven't been able to travel to see my fiance for almost a year thanks to the virus, I'm a little bit beside myself thinking about the "what ifs".

First, it doesn't affect your K-1 if you contact NVC. Second, your file will not move from NVC to Montreal until such time that Montreal ask for the "next batch" of cases. It's my opinion that Canada is only asking for cases in batches and yours is further down the line from those who entered NVC before you. It's rare that we see a case lost. Does it happen yes but in the grand scheme of things the sampling is so small that doesn't register on any barometer.

If you go to the PDF (link is on the first page of this thread) I outline what and where to call and some other tricks to use. My experience with this process is to "trust the process" as it has worked for so many before you. These are not normal times. Good luck and stay engaged.

@SezzyGee Hi mate. Was wondering if you could help you and us with the completion of your profile?

We need a little housekeeping on your end. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline OR your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine their Embassy. The country that should be used is the country where the interview will take place.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Once you finish that then return and you will see a flag in your profile. Select it and see what wonderful information will open up for you.

Thanks

@Greenbaum

I appreciate the response. I understand it might be a while before it is sent to the Montreal embassy, but was under the impression that the case number could be assigned before then, as soon as the NVC receives the approval? I had been informed they (the NVC) hadn't even received our NOA2 from the USCIS yet. The way my year has been going I wouldn't be surprised if it spontaneously combusted en-route 😓

Your PDF has been incredibly helpful, and I've spoken to NVC employees several times using the advice there, but have been told every time that they just haven't received it. I didn't think too much of it until I saw and heard people who have applied and received NOA2 after us report that they have gotten their case numbers.

I called again today and the person I spoke to confirmed that it is outside of what they've seen for processing/mailing times and they gave me an email address to contact for an inquiry -- fingers crossed they figure it out!
