How to cancel K1 Visa while it was in hand

Dear Friends,

My K1 visa was in hand. Before I go to the US, my US fiance has a serious problem about his daughter at this time. The following is the short story :

His daugther has 2 little children that are 4 years old and 9 months old. Before we processed K1 visa, he told me that and he would like to take care his granddaughters. After we discussed together, I and he finally agreed that we would take care of his 4 year old granddaughter and his 4 year old granddaughter would live with us. At this time, his daughter has very serious and terrible problem (sorry can't tell you) so that she couldn't take care of her children and honestly I don't know where she is now. He asked me to take care of his 2 little granddaughters. I will keep my word to take care of his 4 year old granddaughter, but not his 9 month old granddaughter because she was not on our agreement.

I still don't know whether he would keep our agreement or not. I give up the decision to him since he must know what he does really want to. He mentioned 3 options to choose. One of them is the last and least desirable option would be to say goodbye.

I still don't know yet about what his answer is. I have given him a time until the end of June to send his answer. If he finally would choose the last option which would be to say good bye, I were ready moving on without him.

My question is: how would I cancel the visa (while it has already been in my hand) if he chose to say goodbye ? Can I go to the embassy in my area directly ?

Please help and give me your advice about the cancellation visa if you know about it.

Thank you for your help in advance and I appreciate it.

There is no way to cancel the visa once it's been issued, the process of getting the K1 visa is complete at that stage. You could just let it expire (6 months from the issue date) at which point it will become invalid, or you could send it back to your embassy with a short letter saying you no longer wish to use the visa.

You cant cancel it .... but you could just not use it.... I hope your fiance chooses to look after his Grandchildren and this is the most important thing right now ... they need him he is their Grandfather.... hope you are able to work things out in your mind and maybe see that it is not good to make your fiance choose between you and his grandchildren... if you feel you cant handle looking after them then you need to be the one to walk away... but do not make him choose between you....

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for your feedback.

I am not trying to be an arrogant person. All of you on this forum are the third parties only and you don't know what exactly is going on and how the effect is to our real live in the future. What I wrote is only some parts of our issues. It is really my private life and what will happen to our future relationship is my risk and I myself fully realized it. No one is wrong or right in this case. I have fully right to make my own best decision about our relationship because this is my own life and so does he. Sorry, I do not mean to offend to those have already given your opinion. However, I will appreciate you so much if you just give your feedback about my cancellation visa question as needed because I am not asking you to give your opinion about my private life in this forum. Once more, if you have the information about the cancellation visa, please give your feedback about it only.

Thank you again for your feedback, guys.

I agree - just let the visa expire.

Additionally, try email Jakarta consulate re: your question if you need more assurance. They were very good at answering emails. Good luck with your decision!

Yes, let the visa expire. Once it's issued there's no way to retract it.

Good luck in finding the best decision for you both.

Lan,

Yes, you can go to the consulate and have them cancel the visa. Or, as others have suggested, you can let it expire unused. But I would not do that.

I would go back and have the visa cancelled, and turn in the sealed envelope that has your case documents in it. That would be a 'cleaner' way to take care of it and could save you some aggravation should you want to apply for a US visa in the future.

It is the nature of these forumns for posters to comment on information provided. If yo uwished no comments on your private life or a very private decision in your life, you would have been better served to not explain any of the private details. your question could have been simplified to be:

I am in possesion of a K-1 visa, however, certain circumstances have changed. Do I need to do anything to cancel this visa should I desire not to use it? If so, whom should I contact.

See, no private details, nothng for posters to comment on but the question you wish to have answered.

YMMV
