Pay your taxes to the country where your permanent home is and where you go to sleep each night???

Sadly not that simple.

Well that would be the logical thing! I dont find american taxes logical though.

My understanding is that unlike most countries, the us considers me a tax resident if i own a green card, not if i live in the us. Did i get that wrong?

US taxes you on your world wide income and yes as a LPR you are US tax resident.

If you are a US permanent resident you will file a return if you earn (anywhere in the world) over the filing threshold. Whether you qualify to exclude foreign earned (UK) income is to be figured out based on the US/UK tax treaty and IRS rules regarding bonafide resident or physical presence in the foreign country (UK). Or alternately there is a tax credit on the US return for taxes paid to another country IF you qualify.

Start researching on irs.gov or hire a tax accountant experienced in international situations.

Surely I cant be the only person sorting out all the moving, cat mailing and job finding after they have a green card.

Thanks for the links!

No, not at all, but each person is so unique in their move, job plans, kids, pets, and even the State where you will live , that there is never an exact easy answer that will fit everybody.
