Sounds like some prominent Democrats are now promoting in person voting.

Dropping your mail in ballot into the election drop box is not in person.

I don't think anyone in CT could have received a ballot yet. An application for one, yes. I have plenty of family in that part of the world and some of my cousins have been posting on FB about how relieved they started receiving the applications. I don't think the actual ballots go out there until next month. I'll see if I can find a link, my cousin Jim posted something about it, I think.

Every citizen in this country is entitled to vote in every election. They should not be hassled because they choose to vote from home.

If election officials and politicians cannot deliver on the availability of a secure mail-in ballot system, they should step aside and ask Montana, Utah, Washington and Oregon how they get it done.

You seem to have anecdotal friends all over the country.

Those states you mention... don't they only mail ballots to legitimate registered voters?  As in... people who actually exist, not dead people nor people who have moved years ago?

You DO realize that with this election, there will be mass-mailings to all addresses on file, not just authenticated voters?

And yes, I am a man with many friends with many real-life experiences all over the US.  The world, really, though many of those are fading as time passes.

Yes, this was the link he posted:

Absentee ballots are not available until October 2nd. Your friend may have received applications but it couldn't have been a ballot. He really should let the town clerk know, I'm sure they'd want to know.

I'll get back to you.  I probably messed up the story... I AM old, as you like to point out from time to time!  :)

You are correct, it wasn't the actual ballots that he received, rather the ballot request forms.  Thanks for fact checking me.

More on this comment that I forgot to say when you posted...

I am not very familiar with each of those states' methods, but pretty sure they follow Washington's method of only mailing ballot requests to certified voters?  I know here in FL, they are not mass-mailing election ballots, just the ballot request.  I received one for the previous tenant, all filled out except for his birth date.  (If I were to go back and read thru sale documents, I might be able to score his birthday, not sure).

What I think would work well is something along the lines of a DMV license renewal program or vehicle registration, done online.  Whenever I do either of these things, I have to PROVE who I am, and if one single item of data is off, I cannot renew either my DL nor my vehicle registration.  Add one more option to the process which allows online voting, and it's done.  No costly mailing, easy to do (for those with computers).  For those without, then they would have to continue with the current method of mailing ballot requests.   Just an idea.

Topical!!!! The article is just fine, the video (not autoplay) in it is NSFW and NSFKiddos. A friend who's originally from northern Mississippi sent it to me, just the video, and I was like, hmmmm, what's this. Now Alex and I both can't stop chanting "Get your booty to the poll!"

Atlanta-area exotic dancers have teamed up to bring a message to residents unsure about whether they should vote: Get your booty to the poll.

In a video that features their dance moves, the women ask whether they’ve gotten the attention of the audience. Then: “So, you’re really not going to vote?”

They go on to explain that the upcoming election will affect much more than just the presidency. District attorneys, for instance, decide “who to prosecute,” including “dirty cops.”

“Do you know who elects the D.A.?” asks a dancer named Coy. “We do!”

“Can’t make it rain if you’re locked up on some bulls—,” points out another named Imani.

From school board positions to sheriffs and county officials, the women highlight which roles are electable and how those elected officials impact daily life for citizens in the area.

That's all , false?  You aren't paid by the word are you?

Remind me to put an asterisk with a pointer to all of the legal goblecky ###### language about "every" being a figurative term meant to establish the broad principles we should upholding as citizens without ratwholing over ever exception. States and election boards should be striving that every eligible voter is able to vote.

Should be, but as we are seeing in Florida, discharged felons are not getting their rights restored until they pay their fines even though 65% of Floridians voted to make it law, and now, gifts to pay the fines are being rejected by the state as illegal.  Voter suppression is real.

Why do all the Bible Belt states have the strongest adult entertainment industry?

Nevada and California are the Bible belt?

Well not quite, California does have its film industry and Las Vegas is it's own thing not tied to any community.

My thoughts were more along my trips to Dallas and Atlanta club scene.

I continue to see articles like this:

California->porn production (especially LA), at least 2/3 of all porn in the US

Nevada->brothels/prostitution (especially the southern part of the state around LV, but one would notice a decent distribution of them throughout the state)

Of course these are where things actually happen.

When you give an article about Google searches and tell us of your trips, it's clearly non sequitur since you're not traveling via Google search/trends.

The one thing I wouldn't be surprised about is seeing a shift over the coming years to low taxing "southern" states, as no industry loves being taxed to hell, and that's all California does, and of course, considering the exodus of people (and businesses) to these states from CA.

California is in no danger of losing its spot as the hub of entertainment production. Shooting films or TV shows in Georgia isn't the same thing as picking up Universal (for example) and setting it down in Texas. Speaking as someone who knows a lot of people who work in the business (unsurprising given where I grew up), people who run the studios and the agencies and postproduction and all the support businesses tend to kind of, you know, like living here.

To some extent it's self-selection. I have a friend who's a camera operator, doing very well for himself, and he's on the road a lot for work (Vancouver and Atlanta seem to be where he goes the most), but he and his family have decided to stay in LA even though with all his travelling they could live anywhere. Neither he nor his wife are LA natives, but here they feel at home. I have college classmates who drifted out here after getting frustrated in trying to make their entertainment careers work in other parts of the country, and can't imagine actually really leaving (though everyone talks about it, it never really seems to happen). I know actors and writers and sound people, script assistants and audiobook directors (even though it can be done remotely, the hubs of audiobook production remain in LA and NYC). People who do makeup and bake bread for craft services as a hobby. My sister has been a talent agent for a while, though she took severance recently when the agency laid off a ton of people -- she's going to strike out on her own in the new year after she sorts out her license. Her boyfriend is also in the biz on the production side, and when he floated the idea of moving somewhere else for a while given that production has ramped down during the pandemic, he told me she looked like he'd handed her a dirty diaper.

So yes, tax incentives ARE important to production -- the business is a business, after all. But the people who make the decisions happen to like it here, and where they are, that's where the money's really being made. With all that being said, that really applies more to the mainstream entertainment industry, where the apparatus of film and television production is entrenched after a century of leading the way (well, a century of film that is). When it comes to porn, the main reason (from what I have gathered from people I know who have worked on the business side in both) the SFV continues to lead the way is that there is a wealth of talent here. Not really in terms of performers (who sadly are the most expendable part of the business), but because the porn studios can take advantage of all the production folks out here with a little experience who need a little more experience to move up in the mainstream world. The sides feed off each other, because almost everyone who's not working in the offices is a contractor, and is always hustling for the next gig. Need to pay the rent while your show's on hiatus? Use a pseudonym and boom! you're the sound guy on Ramroddin' 16. :P No one needs to know, unless you want them to know, and you can put food on the table. I'm not saying everyone does this, not at all. But I have known enough people at the beginning of their careers scuttle over to porn to make a few bucks and get more experience behind the camera.

All this comes from my own experience of course.
