What's been your experience with the US Embassy regarding CR1/IR1 visas during COVID-19?

My husband's documents were qualified July 2020, however, the US Embassy in Ghana has not resumed regular visa services. According to their website, they're providing some visa services, but it doesn't appear that they're processing family-based visas. I haven't been able to reach the US Embassy to speak to someone there. I called the NVC, and they only thing they're telling me is that when the US Embassy in Ghana resumes processing my visa type (IR1), they will send over my info at the Embassy's request.

I'm starting this thread just to hear about the experiences of others regarding this topic.

I became documentarily qualified in Dec 2019 and heard from the Ghanaian embassy in Feb 2020 that I had been scheduled for my interview in March. However due to covid and subsequent closure of the embassy my March interview was canceled . I however received a mail for rescheduling of the interview for a date in August and this date was later canceled with the embassy not sure about the resumption of routine services. Hope this helps.

Wow! It seems that the US Embassy in Ghana are VERY behind. I was hoping to be reunited with my husband by the end of this year, but it seems that we probably won't be reunited until mid to late next year. This is such a bitter reality that a lot of us are going through. I'm so perplexed that the US Embassy in Ghana is not processing family-based visas because the COVID-19 infection and date rate there is low. I'm so blown away that this is occuring in the US immigration system! Sad!

Thanks for your feedback and yes, it was helpful. I don't see a lot of immigration stories from Ghana here on VisaJourney.

I was DQ in July and still waiting. My wife and I requested expedite and it was refused. So we are just waiting for them to resume and we know the way forward

Thanks for your feedback. Hopefully we will all hear something good soon. I believe that what the US Embassy in Ghana is doing is devastating, but not shocking.

Best of luck with everything! If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of visa did the person have who interviewed in August 2020? Was he ever issued a visa to the USA?

Thank you.  He is applying for the IR-1 Spouse visa.  He has been married for just over 2 years and has never been to the US.

Congrats!  I'm a little behind in my boat. 😊 My wife and I got married just over a year ago.  We have a 2 year daughter.  She has never been to the US either.   I wish everyone luck.  Will keep in touch if I hear anything.

He never mentioned anything about expediting to me.  If I find anything different will let you know.  However, I did read on one country site that most August and September interviews will be canceled and rescheduled for October.

I’ve also heard the same. I heard that interviews will resume in October, but nothing officially from the US Embassy website. I guess we’ll just have to hang tight and see.
