Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't seem to find one that fits my case...

So I have a SS Card with my maiden name (applied for it before my I-94 expired) and went back to the SS Office after getting married to have my name legally changed (this was around March or April 2020 before lockdown. It seemed to be successful as the lady in charged gave us a printed copy of the name change and told us the card would be sent to us.... but up to this day, we still don't have it...

anyway, we filed the AOS with EAD and AP and checked the request a new card or something like that... got my combo card yesterday.

we called the SS office and the service rep said it was still under my maiden name but then again she implied that they might not have it(?) Or it might not reflect on their system yet because it was (probably) still too early and suggested we submit a new form SS5 to change name... i don't know if I should do that since I have to submit Original ID's and docs and I need my nee EAD next week to get a driver's license...

Is the USCIS gonna give me a new SS Card? Or should I re-apply for a name change and wait to get my driver's license.

Thanks

TL;DR :

got social card under maiden name and went to change it after marriage. Still don't have new card. Checked box to get new card on AOS application.  Wondering if USCIS is gonna send me a SS card with my new name or should I "re"-apply for a new name change with form SS5.

USCIS does not issue SSN.  You will need to visit SSA or follow SSA covid procedures to get it changed
