NVC has received case - what to do now?

Hi all,

Apologies if this has already been answered by I called the NVC today and confirmed they have received our case and that a case number and invoice number have been assigned. I'm a little unsure what to do next, are we allowed to fill in our DS-160, or do we have to wait for further confirmation before we can proceed with this? For reference, I am the beneficiary and based in the UK (I understand UK cases are not yet being sent to the US Embassy in London).

Thanks

Just wait until your case gets sent to the embassy. Doing the DS-160 early doesn’t speed up your process at all. Nobody looks at it or checks it before the K1 interview. Your information may change before that time since the wait is unknown.

You could be checking your immunizations now. As an adult, you should provide a record of two MMRs (anytime in your life) and Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis or Tetanus/Diptheria dated within the last 10 years. Typically you had the one with pertussis as a child so only need the Td boost within the last 10 years. In the UK they give Revaxis for the Td boost. It has polio along with the tetanus and diptheria, but that’s okay.  The flu jab you’ll need might have to be given at a place like Boots because NHS usually only gives flu jabs to children and elderly. if you’ve had chickenpox then the Varicella jab is waived. They take your word for it at the visa medical clinic.

So four shots required of adults, but varicella can be easily waived because most everybody in the UK gets chickenpox since they don’t immunise for it.

You wait, unfortunately.

For K1 filers, NVC acts like a distribution center.  They get the approved K1 petition from USCIS, see where the beneficiary lives, assigns the case numbers, and sends it to the correct embassy.  There is no interaction with the NVC, other than calling them to see what your case number is.

When the embassy opens up to start processing K1's again, the NVC will mail them the K1 petition.  Then the embassy will send an email to the beneficiary with Packet 3 information, and instructions on filling out the DS-160 and how to pay the fees.

For London, the beneficiary will get a snail mail letter, not an email, saying your file has been received from NVC and to go online to find your K1 instructions. Those instructions are here. https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/applying-for-the-visa/
You don’t have to wait for the letter from the London embassy. As soon as your case status says “ready” on  https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?App=IV then you can start following those instructions.

For my CEAC, do I use the number I was given by the NVC?

Yes, you use your case number from NVC and choose "immigrant" as your visa type as all K-1's are processed up till issue in the "immigrant" category whereupon when the visa is issue it changes over to a "non-immigrant" visa.

All of this is explained in the PDF under the monthly NOA2 threads. Find a copy on the first page, first post where I outline every step of the way from NOA1 to your embassy.  I believe you have been a part of the conversation in one of those threads as I recall seeing you posting in the thread. Good luck and stay engaged.

Yes. LNDxxxxxxxxxx.  And use the IMMIGRANT visa check, not the Nonimmigrant because the Immigrant Visa Unit will be receiving your case and handling your processing. Your petitioner will get notification from NVC when the case heads to London. Then start looking for the ready status on ceac status. As long as K1s (traveling directly from the UK) are under the travel ban to the US, I don’t expect any movement in your case getting to London.

Gotcha, the PDF was a little unclear so I just wanted to double check on here. I guess now the key is to be patient for the next few months.

As far as I know I think you have to wait til NVC email you and tell you what to do next. At our time with NVC we had to wait til:

•the applications were ready and uploaded,

•had all information to upload to NVC, and
•got email from NVC

Not for a K1

YMMV

The NVC letter is void of any information as to what to do next. He can complete the DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application and once his file is set to "ready" on CEAC.state.gov he can proceed with the paying the interview fee, completing the medical and scheduling the interview date. Each embassy is different in their requirements so it's best to get a copy of the P3 letter or, find the interview requirements on the embassy website. And now you have the 411 on what to do.

Really? My cousin here in state filing K1 and waiting always on NVC to email her for her husband and as for us CR1 we also waiting every time for NVC to email us before we can submit anything. It just might be different for some I guess...

K1 submits nothing to NVC.  The only email  k1 gets from NVC is notification of file being shipped to the consulate

YMMV

It's not just different for some.  NVC process for K1 is different from NVC process for CR1.  K1 petitioners do not need to submit documents to NVC.

Also, your cousin's husband would not qualify for K1 visa as K1 is for applicants who are not married.
