Hey everyone,

Β

I am at a loss, devastated, stressed.... I have been in the process for two years. Married, we have children and currently 7 months pregnant. I had my interview in Montreal today and my nightmare came to a reality. The whole interview went great. I had all documents, answered everything truthfully. He asked me about being born in Mexico and how long I have been a citizen in Canada. Asked me if I have ever been arrested which I have not, asked my daughter her birth date and she froze for a few seconds and then answered. He did not want to see my evidence binder either. I thought it had went well unless he gave me a white form, 122g, with additional processing required. He did not give me any further explanation except tell me no it wont when I asked him if this would delay my process by months and told me hed work on it today. He also did not give me the passports back. I am in panic and cried all day, and feel I am going crazy with not knowing the reasons to it. Has anyone experienced this? A few reasons I would think is our truck got stolen back in february and had to replace everything including passports or maybe that i changed my last name after I started the process so everything in the process is in my maiden name? I am go crazy:( Any advice would be appreciated..

First of all, take deep breaths... then check the white paper again.Β  It probably says "221(g)", not "122g".Β  Does the paper say you need to submit additional documents?Β  Did the consul officer ask for any additional documents?

Β

That they kept your passport is a good sign.Β  But you need to make sure what exactly the paper says and if there's any action required from you.

Β

If no additional documents are required, then you just need to wait for the consulate to finish whatever administrative processing (AP) they need to do in the background.Β  This AP stage is normal.Β  Unfortunately, there's no guaranteed timeline.Β  If they need anything from you, they will contact you and ask.Β  Until then or until your CEAC status changes to "Issued", just sit tight.Β  You can do this!

Yes my bad.Β 221g. It just said additional processing required. I had everything, and he only wanted the minimum. Couldn’t tell me anything more.

Β

So the 221g paper doesn't tell you to submit more documents.Β  It looks like you're going through normal administrative processing.Β  Every application goes through some sort of AP because the consulate needs to complete their background checks and do admin stuff like print the actual visa.Β  There's really nothing to do but wait for them to contact you or until your visa status becomes "Issued".Β  I know it's frustrating, but take it as a good sign that they kept your passport and didn't ask you for more documents.

If it would have been something that was red flagged, would I have gotten more information on it? Ive been going through everything I said in my mind all night. I answered everything honestly.

Β

Applicants with obvious red flags get 221g papers that say they need to provide more documents.Β  Yes, it's easier to understand the reason for 221g for those cases.Β  But you would not want to be one of those people.Β  Your case looks like normal administrative processing.Β  No need to torture yourself speculating on what the consulate needs to do background checks on.Β  Those checks are just part of the normal process.
