Hi all,

We just sent the i129f for K-1 with my fiance. I read a lot of comments regarding the fact that consulates are now closed for interviews and there will be a big queue the upcoming months. However I believe 1) until our app is reviewed may things are better (or not so bad at least) 2) I dont believe there will be a lot of pending interviews in Greece especially for K1...

Is this something that should we worry about based on the country? We would prefer to stay to K1 instead of marriage to a third country for now...

Thank you!

and we need a little housekeeping on your end. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline OR your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine their Embassy. The country that should be used is the country where the interview will take place.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

We are also kind of in the same boat. My fiancé is waiting for our case to be sent to the US Embassy in Athens, but it’s currently stuck at NVC due to Trump’s travel ban on EU :(. We are also hoping that we won’t have to wait long for an interview once our case gets there. What are your concerns regarding the K1 process over there?

Oh wish you luck and hope this will resolved soon :(

I just see a lot of answers mentioning that K1 at this moment is a waste of time due to big queue and is better to getting married and then get the CR1 visa. We just filled the K1 so not sure if when this situation getting better, it would be a big queue for Athens as well..  Still waiting NOA1 anyway so will take several time, just checking proactively 🤷‍♀️

The K1 processing delays due to COVID and the Schengen travel ban is not actually the main reason that people here recommend CR1 over K1.  COVID just made CR1 even more attractive now.

Many VJ members strongly push for CR1 mainly because of what happens after the visa process.  CR1 visa holders gain permanent resident status immediately upon entry to the US, while K1 still need to go through a lengthy process to adjust status.  Many here realized (sometimes too late) that the huge benefits that come with immediate PR status are worth the few additional months waiting for a CR1 visa.

For people who haven't started the visa process but are ready to get married, can meet anywhere to marry, and can stand to wait a little longer to live together, CR1 would be the superior choice over K1 in any consulate, pandemic or not.

Thanks, this makes sense. Unfortunately the adjustment of status can delay too and the worse is the work permit :(

Yeah I understand :( at least USCIS is still processing K1 applications. I’m not sure what the processing times are now but we got our NOA2 in about 4 months. Hopefully by the time you get your NOA2 the consulates will be accepting cases and scheduling interviews again.

Are there anyone waiting for their medical results to be sent to the embassy? We had our medical exam on 26th of august, and had our interview for CR1 visa on september 1st but we are still waiting for the medifirst clinic to send our medical exam results to the embassy.

I called them they said that there is a new way of submitting results which they dont have the software for that. So they are waiting for  embassy to set up that software to the clinic.
