Has anyone ever asked for a certified true copy of their naturalization certificate during this pandemic? Is it possible? Trying to call to schedule an infopass. I’m planning to apply for a passport and im afraid of sending my original naturalization certificate that might potentially get lost in the mail.

You need to send your original natualization papers to get your passport. No way around that. Think about it? How will they know your document is real without that seal. Also you need to send it via mail to change your status to citizenship. No short cuts with this one. Good Luck.

Isn't the status already changed to U.S. citizen as soon as he receives the naturalization certificate? Naturalization certificate and passport can be reapplied later if lost.

The certificate is also proof the correct person is applying, not a scam.

It would be nice if supplied with a passport during the ceremony along with your certificate.

But there are 2 agencies involved. USCIS and State Department. They don't talk to each other.

You won't get an info pass at this time.

Right now 150,000 people a week send their certificates.

I sweated for 6 weeks to get it back.

The passport has a smaller chance of getting lost, as its Priority mail, and once you have that the certificate, is secondary.

Passport is proof now.

No you have to change it at Social Security Office. Since they are closed you have to mail it in with a specific form (call them for that form). Also replaceing a Naturalization Certificate is not cheap.

Everyone had that fear of getting lost but everyone i saw in this forum sent it and got it back. Think positive and outcome will be positive.

Once you have your passport, a Naturalization Certificate isn't as critical. As the passport can be used as your primary citizenship proof.

Your stress goes down when sending the NC to SSA!!

Do you have to choose the two-day delivery option to have it as a Priority mail?

Not changing it for SSN doesn’t mean anything, you can still get passport, register to vote etc before that is done.  We were told at our ceremony to wait at least 8 weeks before changing at SS office for their records to be updated, but we could all - and I did - apply for passport and register to vote right after the ceremony.
