Are embassies/consulates still processing IR1 visas? (Spouse)

Hi,

 

Our local consulate says they are only processing emergency and mission-critical cases, but since our case is immediate relative we can ask for expedite. 

But I'm seeing many interviews are being schedueled in countries worse than ours (Covid-wise) according to timelines here on the website.

 

So what exactly is happening? When can we expect an interview to be scheduled? Will it be a long wait?

Depends on the consulate and how many spousal visa are being processed there.  Also right now there is a delay in some consulates due to the need to process Diversity Visas before then end of the fiscal year (Sept 30, 2020).

November 6th, 2018 State ID Card Received, Applied for Global Entry - Feb 8,2019 Approved.

July 14, 2020 Removal of Conditions submitted by mail  July 12, 2021 Biometrics Completed

August 6, 2021 N-400 submitted by mail

September 7, 2021 I-751 Interview, Sept 8 Approved and Card Being Produced

October 21, 2021 N-400 Biometrics Completed  

November 30,2021  Interview, Approval and Oath

December 10, 2021 US Passport Issued

August 12, 2022 PHL Dual Nationality Re-established & Passport Approved 

April 6,2023 Legally Separated - Oh well

It's more than just "worse Covid-wise". They look at local and international restrictions, staffing issues, etc.

They are handling cases as quickly as they are able with the limited staff they do have and the backlogs in existence already. Some places are able to do so faster than others. Some may still need a reason to expedite even for IR-1/CR-1.

There's also a rush of DV applications going on in some areas as they must be issued ASAP or they are gone forever, and some countries are hit harder than others there.

So according to what criterias do they allow more staff?
